About J with a K Music:

J with a K Music is an innovative traveling music school in Toronto that goes beyond the standard private lesson model. We are proud to offer our instructors stability, support, and a true sense of belonging within our team. We are currently seeking passionate voice, piano, and guitar teachers with academic and/or professional performance experience to teach students of all ages. PLEASE NOTE: We are excited to grow our team and are currently seeking teachers to join us! As we move towards September, we look forward to welcoming new team members work with them throughout the 2026–2027 season.

Does your background include one or more of the below options (in no particular order)?

  • Graduated a Classical University Program
  • Graduate of a Musical Theatre/Post-Secondary Musical Theatre Program
  • RCM Certified by completing long-term music lesson studies (Gr. 8 - ARCT)
  • Long-Term Private Lesson Teacher
  • Graduate of an arts program with contemporary pop training and technique specialization
  • Professional singing, recording, or touring background

What Makes Us Different:

  • We understand travelling to student’s homes is a luxury for the student, and have further understanding that travelling in Toronto is no small task. As such, we offer tiered compensation for your travels.
  • We offer at least FOUR (4) performance opportunities for students throughout the season, varying from casual performances to formal experiences!
  • We work with your consistent availability, you pick the days you want to teach (we take your lead on what works for your teaching commitment).
  • Designated make-up lesson weeks to off-set the headache of finding time to make up lessons. We're on your side, and policies are in place to balance out lesson cancellations!
  • Onboarding training for all new teachers - we have ongoing teaching support as well and provide tools to support your skills as an educator.
  • Bi-Weekly payments / easy invoicing.
  • Opportunity for growth: your position always has room to grow into other roles within the school!

What We Require:

  • A vehicle for commuting (your own or a reliable driver - strongly encouraged). Note: If you travel by TTC & are still interested in applying, please indicate this in the Google Form Application
  • Grade 8 RCM (or playing equivalent) on primary instrument. Note: If you teach secondary instruments at a beginner to intermediate level, please indicate this in the Google Form Application
  • Able to commit to a consistent weekly teaching schedule.
  • Either provide a current vulnerable sector check or willingness to acquire a vulnerable sector check.
  • Warm, optimistic, and genuinely excited to teach!

Compensation / Position Information:

  • $35 - $50 per hour
  • Tiered compensation for your travels.
