TO Live has an exciting full-time opportunity in its Programming Department in the role of Senior Producer.

The Programming Department of TO Live, headed by the Vice President, Executive Producer, is responsible for securing, servicing, and delivering TO Live’s rental business including corporate and private events, Communities and Outreach activities, and TO Live Presents programming.

The Senior Producer reports to the Director of Programming and works closely with the Vice President, Executive Producer, Production Managers, Development team, Front of House and the Marketing and Ticketing Services Departments.

The Senior Producer will be the most experienced in a team of three Producers reporting to the Director of Programming. The Producers are focused on TO Live Presents programming and are responsible for budgeting, contracting, planning, scheduling and executing events on time and on budget. In all of this work, the Producers at TO Live are expected to deliver to the highest industry standard.

TO Live Presents seasons include a wide range of events across all disciplines in its theatres ranging in size from 10 to over 3,200 seating capacity. In addition to programming work for the seven main stages in its three venues, TO Live is also committed to activating its public and gallery spaces.

Activities and Responsibilities

  • Act as a senior leader within the Programming Department, setting the standard for the producing team; mentoring and inspiring fellow Producers.
  • Prepare and review contracts for all TO Live Presentations for execution by the Vice-President, Executive Producer and the President and CEO.
  • Create programming budgets for review.
  • Ensure all budgets include appropriate forecasting and budget modifications as required. Control expenses and maximize revenues.
  • Adhere to the requirements of TO Live’s Finance Policies.
  • Arrange and manage artist logistics and hospitality, including accommodation, travel, ground transportation, catering and rider requirements.
  • Develop a deep understanding of each of the artists and projects for which the Senior Producer is responsible.
  • Prepare budgets for government grants and other development needs in consultation with the Development department.
  • Monitor the activities and work schedules of the venues daily.
  • Liaise between production, administration and visiting artists, including co-production and co-presentation partners.
  • Create a welcoming, well-supported environment for visiting artists so they can deliver their best possible performance.
  • Reconcile and negotiate final settlement with co-producers and presented artists/companies.
  • Work collaboratively across the organization and with external partners, interfacing with multiple internal departments, artists, agents, funders and community stakeholders.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.

Job Specifications

  • Minimum eight years of cultural program management and financial administration experience in the music, dance and performing arts sector.
  • A wealth of hands-on producing experience across a broad range of artistic disciplines and venue scales.
  • Attention to detail and highly organized.
  • Proven command of and expertise in contract negotiation and execution, including artist, co-production and commissioning agreements.
  • Experience in producing new works.
  • Practical working knowledge and experience in event, stage and production management preferably in a unionized environment.
  • Thorough understanding and preparation of program budgeting.
  • Strong financial acumen paired with a disciplined, accountable approach to managing budgets and resources.
  • Strong communication, written and interpersonal skills.
  • Calm and composed under pressure, with a positive, collegial, solutions-oriented approach.

Working Conditions

  • Flexibility in hours and schedules and includes work on nights and weekends as required.
  • Lack of natural light in workplace.
  • Travel between TO Live venues as required.
