Full job description

Job Overview:
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Respite Worker to provide support and care for children with autism between the age 4-18 years. As a Respite Worker with Behaviour Avenues, you will be joining the Urgent Response Services program supporting families dealing with urgent challenging behaviours. You will be mainly working with children with autism and supporting with stabilizing their behaviours while providing respite to their parents. Services will be provided in the child’s home, community, or center. You will prioritize the child’s safety and wellbeing while engaging them in fun and leisure activities and teaching them life skills. You will also be required to write a summary of your session in the communication log.

Qualifications:

To be considered for this position you must have the following qualifications:

- At least a college diploma in Developmental Services, youth and child studies, autism and behavioural sciences

- At least one year experience supporting children and youth with autism and intellectual disabilities.

- Familiarity and knowledge in implementating safety plans and behaviour reduction plans

- Must be trained in safe management or non-violent crisis intervention (BMS or CPI)

- Must have recent CPR certification.

- Must have a recent clear vulnerable sector check (Police record check)

- Must have access to a reliable car with 2 million $ liability insurance and at least G2 driver license.

- Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills

- Must demonstrate ethical and professional conduct and respect clients confidentiality and culture.

- Must provide 2 professional references-

Hours and scheduling:

- This is a part time employment position up to 15 hours per week

- Must be available after school hours and on weekends to accommodate clients’ needs
