Full Job Description

About Us

Support Services Group (SSG) is a community-based organization dedicated to supporting individuals with diverse abilities to live meaningful, self-directed lives. Over decades, SSG has worked alongside individuals, families, and communities throughout Nova Scotia to promote inclusion, independence, and belonging. We believe every person deserves the opportunity to build relationships, pursue their goals, and participate fully in community life.

What is Home Sharing?

Home Sharing is a partnership where caregivers open their homes and lives to an individual eligible for services. Each arrangement is tailored to the person's needs and preferences and may involve a shared living space or a separate suite within the home. Our team works closely with individuals and families to ensure the right match, focusing on respect, belonging, and community connection.

Contracted caregivers help individuals build relationships, develop life skills, and participate in community life while maintaining family ties. Support may include meal preparation, personal care, transportation, and assistance with daily routines.

All caregivers complete a thorough screening process, including a home study, criminal record check, driving record review, first aid certification, and reference checks.

Role Overview

As a Contracted Home Share Provider, you will provide a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment. This is a live-in arrangement, meaning the person supported will become part of your household. You will play a key role in fostering independence, community involvement, and personal growth while helping someone build a fulfilling life within your community.

Current Opportunities

  • Contracted Home Share Providers who are willing to welcome an individual into their home.
  • Flexible arrangements designed to match the strengths of caregivers with the needs and preferences of individuals receiving support.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a stable, caring, and respectful home environment.
  • Support daily living activities such as meal preparation, personal care, transportation, medication management and household routines.
  • Encourage participation in community activities, recreation, employment, volunteering, and social opportunities.
  • Follow individualized support plans and maintain clear communication with SSG staff and family members when appropriate.
  • Promote independence, choice, and personal development.
  • Maintain required records and documentation as outlined in the contract.
  • Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of the individual receiving support.

Requirements

  • Experience supporting individuals with diverse abilities is considered an asset but is not required.
  • Ability to provide a safe, welcoming, and inclusive home environment.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to complete required training and meet all contractual requirements.
  • Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation are considered assets.
  • Standard First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Check, and home safety inspection.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with SSG, families, and community partners.

Compensation

Monthly contract compensation ranges from $1,300 to $5,600 per month, depending on the individual's support needs, level of care required, and living arrangement.

Why Join Us?

  • Make a meaningful difference in someone's life every day.
  • Build lasting relationships and create a positive impact within your community.
  • Enjoy the flexibility of working from your own home.
  • Become part of a network of dedicated caregivers who are passionate about inclusion and belonging.
  • Help create opportunities for individuals to live independently and participate fully in community life.
