The Research Associate will apply their expertise and knowledge to research projects, and carry out or oversee original and independent research under the general direction of a principle investigator. The incumbent may play a lead role in training staff, graduate students, undergraduate students and/or post-doctoral fellows, and in resolving issues that arise in the research environment. The incumbent will develop research and project plans, and design, build and run experiments. The Research Associate will evaluate and interpret experimental results, develop models or correlations, and prepare reports and other written material for presentations and/or submissions to various stakeholders as required.

Qualifications

Education: Master’s degree in a relevant discipline; PhD in a relevant discipline (Neurophysiology) preferred

Experience: 3 years’ working experience in a related academic research environment

Skills, Abilities & Expertise:

Proficient in mouse/rat survival surgeries, including stereotaxic procedures for intracranial microinjections and probe/cannula implantation.
Skilled in brain tissue processing: immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, RNA/protein assays.
Experience in microscopy image acquisition (fluorescence and light) and quantitative analysis using ImageJ, QuPath, and/or Imaris.
Experience conducting neurophysiological recordings (e.g., fiber photometry, electrophysiology).
Ability to develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) for experimental protocols.
Ability to support and substitute for the animal care technician responsible for mouse colony maintenance (barrier and conventional facilities).
Capable of training lab members and collaborators in experimental methods (#1–5 above).
Collaborative team member with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Skilled in technical communication and report writing for diverse audiences.
Proficient in software applications used for experimental control, data collection, and analysis.
Strong problem-solving abilities, with capacity for innovation and creative troubleshooting.
Highly detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills.
Knowledge of institutional research policies and safety regulations.
Adaptability to dynamic and evolving research priorities.
Able to work independently and as part of a team to meet research objectives.
