What You Will Do

Summary

The Statistician is responsible for independent and collaborative analyses, interpretation and reporting of HIV data collected in the provincial HIV registry. This role provides statistical support to medical fellows, physicians, researchers and students on HIV research related projects, supporting the development of data collection, providing analytical support, performing quantitative analyses, and collaborating on scientific papers, abstracts and grants.

What You Bring

Education:

· Master’s degree in Statistics, Biometrics, Biostatistics and five (5) years of related experience, including data analysis, and writing statistical analysis, plans and reports.

· Advanced knowledge of descriptive statistics, statistical inference and modelling.

· Knowledge of database management principles.

· An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

Skills and Abilities:

· Strong analytical, problem solving and system analysis skills including the ability to comprehend complex issues and related data/information and present information in concise meaningful ways.

· Ability to develop complex and customized queries and reports

· Demonstrated knowledge of statistical software packages including SAS and R.

· Ability to synthesize data and present results effectively to various audiences.

· Ability to perform complex statistical analyses based on the design of study.

· Ability to handle multiple concurrent tasks.

· Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

· Ability to maintain confidentiality.

· Strong verbal and written communication skills.

· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

· Excellent time management skills.

Your Day to Day:

· Provides support for the development and maintenance of data collection and recording systems such as databases. Performs data retrieval for studies by writing computer programs and macros to capture and edit data.

· Provides analytical support for research by using quantitative data analysis using descriptive and statistical methodologies.

· Evaluate and recommend statistical methods for data analysis.

· Performs quantitative data analyses using advanced statistical methodologies and statistical software.

· Identifies and provide advice about data limitations and ensure adequate data quality for analytic purposes; serves as a resource on experimental design, statistical methodology and theory and recommends statistical methods for data analysis.

· Collaborates on writing scientific papers and abstracts by providing statistical results, writing methods and results and preparing tables and figures.

· Collaborates on writing grant proposals, providing a priori power and sample size calculations.

· Perform other related duties as required.

The BC-CFE is a world-renowned HIV/AIDS Centre with an innovative, low-barrier approach to healthcare delivery in clinical practice and an integrated group of research concentrations in Laboratory Sciences, Clinical Trials, Population Health and Epidemiology, Health Economics and Professional Education Programs. A multidisciplinary team of clinicians, including Physicians, Nurses, and peers, and researchers, including Health Economists, Epidemiologists, Clinical Researchers, Statisticians, Programmers, and Data Analysts, work collaboratively to improve the health of British Columbians with HIV and communities facing socioeconomic barriers in accessing healthcare.
