Who We're Looking For:
We’re looking for an ambitious Medical Science Liaison (MSL) to join our team.
The role is focused on supporting the medical and scientific needs of healthcare practitioners (HCPs) and thereby supporting the corporate objectives. The MSL is the field-based advocate of BioSyent Medical Affairs team, who drives the implementation of the Company’s Medical Affairs plans related primarily to Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) engagement and data dissemination.
The MSL possesses medical knowledge and business acumen, to act as the subject matter expert in the therapeutic areas of interest, and ensure credible, fair, and balanced scientific exchange with both internal and external stakeholders. The individual can navigate discussions to balance what is useful to KOLs with BioSyent medical strategy and bring back useful insights. The incumbent systematically identifies the scientific needs of KOLs, investigators and other stakeholders in patient care in a compliant manner, establishes strong professional relationships, provides credible scientific expertise, and serves as a link between BioSyent and KOLs.
Some of Your Key Responsibilities:
The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) engages in balanced, objective scientific exchange with healthcare professionals (HCPs) to support scientific discovery and informed treatment decisions. MSL serves as a key scientific resource and liaison between BioSyent and the medical community.
Reporting to the Director of Medical and Regulatory Affairs, the duties and responsibilities of a Medical Science Liaison include, but are not limited to, the following:
Scientific Engagement
- Serve as the primary liaison between HCPs and the BioSyent Medical Affairs team.
- Facilitate credible, fair, and balanced medical and scientific communications with HCPs.
- Present clinical and disease-state information to a variety of audiences (e.g., key opinion leaders [KOLs], HCPs, and hospital decision-making teams) upon request.
- Develop and maintain “peer-to-peer” scientific relationships with key stakeholders in healthcare, academia, payer, and government organizations according to strategic territory plans.
- Manage strategic scientific partnerships and engage in scientific exchange with KOLs.
- Critically assess and interpret scientific data, translating complex information into clear, tailored messages for diverse internal and external audiences.
- Respond, within defined timelines and according to industry standards, to clinical or scientific inquiries related to BioSyent products.
- Support pharmacovigilance by collecting and reporting adverse events or product complaints in accordance with company procedures.
Medical Leadership and Strategic Planning:
- Collaborate cross-functionally with internal teams to ensure alignment and effective exchange of clinical information and insights.
- Communicate key medical insights, opinions, and feedback from KOLs/HCPs to the BioSyent Medical Affairs team to inform and refine medical strategies.
- Develop and deliver scientific communication materials (e.g., slide decks, presentations) for educational and scientific engagements.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant medical literature and apply critical appraisal skills to scientific publications.
- Conceptualize, organize, chair, and execute medical-scientific events in collaboration with internal stakeholders.
- Build scientific advocacy and foster engagement among healthcare providers and thought leaders around BioSyent’s products and therapeutic areas.
Other Responsibilities:
- Ensure prompt reporting (within 24 hours) of any complaints, including potential adverse drug reactions, to the designated responsible person as outlined in training.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Medical and Regulatory Affairs.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in life sciences is the minimum requirement.
- A doctoral degree in life sciences (MD, PharmD, PhD, or equivalent) is preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a field-based MSL in the pharmaceutical industry.
- Prior experience working as MSL with endocrinologists and / or obstetricians / gynecologists required.
- MSL experience with pediatricians and general practitioners/family physicians is an asset.
- Knowledge of regulations governing medical information exchange with healthcare professionals within the Canadian pharmaceutical environment.
- Strong understanding of the local healthcare system, clinical priorities, and operational processes.
- Knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry and familiarity with regulatory requirements.
- Experience in delivering oral presentations within the healthcare profession to both large and small audiences.
Skills & Competencies:
- Proven ability to deliver effective oral presentations to healthcare audiences, both large and small.
- Skilled in identifying, profiling, and engaging internal and external stakeholders to develop appropriate solutions.
- Strong understanding of Medical Affairs functions and their alignment with business objectives.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to translate objectives into actionable plans aligned with organizational goals.
- Demonstrated collaboration with Sales and Marketing teams while maintaining scientific integrity.
- Ability to work independently with excellent self-leadership, initiative, and minimal supervision.
- Exceptional communication skills, including written, verbal, presentation, and facilitation abilities.
- Fluency in English required; proficiency in French is an asset.
- Strong negotiation and influence skills, with a proven ability to build and maintain partnerships with thought leaders.
Working Conditions
- Full-time, field-based position with a home office setup; occasional in-office presence as required.
