Full job description

Qualifications – Northern Ontario Healthcare Facility

  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Cardiovascular Technology, or a related field required
  • Advanced certification such as Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) required
  • Certification with the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) required
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • Several years of experience in a cardiac imaging setting required
  • Experience working with diverse patient populations preferred
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • End Date: 4 months

Responsibilities:

Echocardiography Technologists are required to adhere to professional practice standards and facility protocols. Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Perform diagnostic echocardiograms including transthoracic studies
  • Assist with advanced cardiac imaging procedures such as stress echocardiography and transesophageal echocardiograms (TEE) where applicable
  • Operate and maintain ultrasound equipment and related imaging technology
  • Analyze and document imaging results for physician interpretation
  • Ensure proper patient preparation and provide clear instructions during procedures
  • Monitor patient safety and comfort throughout examinations
  • Maintain accurate imaging records and documentation
  • Follow infection control procedures and safety standards

Note: Duties may vary based on departmental needs, with specific guidance provided during site orientation.

Experience:

  • Several years of echocardiography experience required
  • Experience performing a variety of cardiac ultrasound procedures required
  • Hospital experience considered a strong asset
  • Familiarity with digital imaging systems (PACS) considered an asset
  • Strong understanding of cardiac anatomy, physiology, and pathology required
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced clinical environment

  • Strong analytical and technical imaging skills
  • Excellent communication and patient interaction abilities
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy
  • Ability to follow detailed clinical protocols
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods and assist patients when required
