Ophthalmic Technician

Ontario Retina Associates | Hamilton, Ontario | Full-Time or Part-Time

About Ontario Retina Associates

Ontario Retina Associates (ORA) is a community-based medical and surgical retina practice in Hamilton, Ontario. At ORA, we operate by a simple philosophy: Patient-First. The Role

We are looking for a motivated and compassionate Ophthalmic Technician to join our growing team. You will be a core member of the clinical team ensuring that every patient receives thorough, efficient, and exceptional care. This is a hands-on, high-responsibility role in a fast-paced subspecialty clinic.

What You'll Do

  • Perform patient workups including visual acuity, intraocular pressure measurement, pupil dilation, and a detailed ocular history intake.
  • Operate and acquire diagnostic imaging including OCT (optical coherence tomography), and fundus photography.
  • Prepare patients for in-office procedures including intravitreal injections and laser treatments.
  • Assist the physician during procedures as required.
  • Lane-loading
  • Document clinical findings accurately and efficiently in Accuro EMR
  • Prepare and organize examination rooms; maintain instruments, supplies, and sterile technique
  • Communicate clearly and warmly with patients, many of whom are elderly, anxious, or visually impaired.
  • Liaise with referring optometrists and ophthalmologists as needed
  • Assisting front-desk staff as necessary

What We're Looking For

Required

  • Experience in ophthalmology or optometry as a technician or assistant
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Professionalism and discretion with patient information in compliance with PHIPA
  • Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic

Preferred

  • Experience with Accuro EMR
  • Familiarity with ophthalmic diagnostic imaging equipment (OCT, fundus camera)
  • Experience in a retina practice
  • COT, COMT, or equivalent ophthalmic technician certification
  • Bilingual or multilingual skills are an asset given our diverse patient population.
  • Scheduling flexibility: The typical hours will be a consistent day-time schedule however the ability to work evenings and Saturday is preferred.
