Job Description:
Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Environmental GIS and Data Specialist to join our Winnipeg Environmental team. In this role, you will combine Geographic Information Systems, environmental data management, workflow automation, and technical communication to support environmental site assessment, remediation, risk-management, monitoring, and sampling projects.
This position is well suited to a junior or intermediate professional who enjoys both technical problem-solving and practical environmental work.
What You'll Be Doing:
You will work closely with environmental scientists, engineers, geoscientists, project managers, field personnel, and other GIS and data professionals. You will help organize and validate environmental information, develop and maintain project databases, prepare high-quality maps and figures, automate repetitive processes, and turn field and laboratory data into clear, defensible client deliverables.
-
Develop, administer, and maintain project geodatabases and environmental databases in accordance with Parsons and client standards.
-
Compile, import, organize, and standardize information received from field programs, analytical laboratories, GPS and survey equipment, historical records, drawings, client systems, and government or open-source datasets.
-
Perform quality assurance and quality control of spatial and tabular data, including checks for completeness, accuracy, coordinate systems, location identifiers, units, laboratory qualifiers, and consistency between data sources.
-
Prepare professional maps, figures, and other geospatial deliverables for Phase I and Phase II environmental site assessments, detailed or Phase III investigations, remediation programs, and long-term monitoring and sampling reports.
-
Produce site-location plans, property and facility plans, borehole and monitoring-well figures, sampling-location plans, analytical-results maps, groundwater-elevation and contour figures, remediation-progress plans, and other project-specific graphics.
-
Develop and maintain standardized templates, legends, symbology, naming conventions, metadata, and map-production procedures to improve consistency and efficiency across projects.
-
Build and maintain digital field forms and mobile data-collection workflows using ArcGIS applications or comparable platforms.
-
Use ArcGIS Pro tools , Python/ArcPy and, SQL to automate repetitive data-validation, geoprocessing, map-production, and reporting tasks.
-
Run, troubleshoot, document, and progressively improve existing scripts and automated workflows.
-
Query environmental databases and prepare tables, charts, data summaries, dashboards, and exports for project teams and clients
-
Coordinate with project managers and technical staff to ensure that GIS, data, and reporting tasks are completed accurately, on schedule, and within project budgets.
-
Support technical-report preparation, including figures, tables, appendices, data-management descriptions, methods and results summaries, and other report sections appropriate to the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience.
-
Assist with Phase I background research and the compilation of historical aerial photographs, land-use information, regulatory information, and other spatially referenced records.
-
Provide occasional field support for GPS or mobile-data collection, verification of sampling locations, and implementation of digital field workflows.
-
Maintain clear documentation of databases, scripts, data sources, assumptions, and processing procedures so that work can be reviewed, reproduced, and transferred between project teams.
-
Protect confidential project and client information and follow Parsons’ health and safety, quality-management, data-security, and records-management requirements.
-
Responsibilities and assignments may be adjusted based on the experience and professional interests of the successful candidate
What Required Skills You'll Bring:
-
A college diploma or university degree in GIS, geomatics, geography, environmental science, environmental engineering technology, earth sciences, computer or data science, information systems, or a closely related discipline (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
-
At least one year of relevant GIS, database, environmental-data, or technical-reporting experience. Strong recent graduates with relevant co-op experience, coursework, or a demonstrated project portfolio may also be considered.
-
Practical proficiency with ArcGIS Pro, including geodatabases, data editing, geoprocessing, cartography, coordinate systems and projections, spatial analysis, and preparation of publication-quality maps.

-
Ability to manage multiple assignments and changing priorities in a project-driven consulting environment.
