Are you a Registered Nurse who enjoys working in a fast-paced surgical environment while making a meaningful impact on the patient experience? Jackman Eye Institute is looking for a compassionate and highly organized Registered Nurse (Part-Time) to join our surgical team in a part-time role. As the circulating nurse, you will serve as the patient's advocate throughout their surgical journey while ensuring the safe, efficient, and seamless operation of the operating room.

This role is ideal for a nurse who enjoys a balance of direct patient care, clinical coordination, documentation, and collaboration with surgeons and the surgical team.

What You'll Do

  • Serve as the circulating nurse during surgical procedures, ensuring patient safety and advocating for patient needs throughout the surgical experience.
  • Prepare patients for surgery by providing education, answering questions, and helping to reduce anxiety.
  • Maintain comprehensive and accurate nursing documentation and health records in accordance with professional standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor and maintain a safe, sterile surgical environment while ensuring compliance with infection prevention and control practices.
  • Collaborate closely with surgeons, technicians, and other members of the clinical team throughout procedures.
  • Monitor patients during procedures, recognize changes in patient condition, and respond appropriately to emergencies.
  • Participate in emergency response situations and provide clinical support as required.
  • Assist with post-operative recovery, patient monitoring, discharge instructions, and communication with family members when appropriate.
  • Support quality assurance initiatives, accreditation standards, and continuous quality improvement activities.

What You'll Bring

  • Previous operating room, ambulatory surgery, ophthalmology, or day surgery experience is considered an asset.
  • Strong understanding of perioperative nursing principles, patient safety, and infection prevention practices.
  • Excellent assessment, clinical judgment, and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities with the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced surgical environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a patient-centered approach.
  • Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions during urgent or emergency situations.
  • Experience with electronic medical records (EMR)
  • Current CPR/BLS certification. ACLS certification is considered an asset.
