We are seeking an experienced Unblinded Vaccine Administrator / Research Nurse to join our clinical research team on a temporary contract for approximately 6 to 8 weeks.

This position will play an important role in the conduct of a vaccine clinical trial and will be responsible for the preparation, handling, and administration of study vaccine or investigational product in accordance with the study protocol, pharmacy manual, sponsor requirements, and CaRe procedures.

As a member of the unblinded study team, this individual will be responsible for maintaining strict separation between blinded and unblinded study activities and protecting the study blind at all times. The successful candidate will be comfortable working independently, following detailed clinical trial procedures, maintaining meticulous documentation, and providing professional and compassionate care to research participants.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and administer study vaccines, investigational products, or other protocol specified injections in accordance with the study protocol, pharmacy manual, delegation requirements, and applicable professional standards
• Perform all assigned unblinded study activities while maintaining the integrity of the study blind at all times
• Maintain appropriate separation of unblinded records, materials, communications, and study activities from blinded study staff
• Receive, store, prepare, dispense, and account for investigational product in accordance with study specific requirements
• Maintain accurate investigational product accountability records, preparation records, administration records, temperature logs, and other required study documentation
• Ensure appropriate storage conditions for investigational product and promptly identify and escalate any temperature excursions, product discrepancies, or other concerns
• Access and complete sponsor provided randomization, dispensing, or investigational product systems when required and appropriately delegated
• Verify participant identification, study eligibility confirmation, randomization information, dosage, product assignment, and other required information prior to administration
• Complete protocol specific source documentation accurately, completely, and in a timely manner
• Observe participants following vaccination or administration as required by the study protocol and respond appropriately to any immediate clinical concerns
• Communicate relevant clinical or safety concerns promptly to the Investigator and appropriate study team members while maintaining the study blind
• Follow all study protocols, sponsor requirements, CaRe SOPs, pharmacy manuals, and applicable regulatory requirements
• Conduct all delegated clinical trial activities in accordance with Health Canada requirements and ICH GCP principles
• Maintain strict confidentiality of participant information, clinical trial data, investigational product information, and treatment assignments
• Support investigational product reconciliation and accountability activities throughout the study
• Assist with preparation for sponsor monitoring visits, pharmacy monitoring activities, audits, and inspections as required
• Respond to investigational product related queries and follow up requests from sponsors, CROs, monitors, or study team members
• Ensure vaccination and investigational product areas remain clean, organized, secure, and appropriately stocked
• Review required study materials and supplies regularly and communicate anticipated needs to the study team
• Demonstrate professional and compassionate behaviour when interacting with participants, families, physicians, monitors, sponsors, and CaRe team members
• Identify and communicate protocol concerns, documentation discrepancies, investigational product issues, or operational risks promptly
• Participate in required study training, protocol training, investigational product training, and site meetings
• Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in a fast paced clinical research environment where participant visit schedules and workload may vary
• Perform additional delegated clinical or research duties as required to support the successful conduct of the study

Requirements

• Current registration and good standing with an appropriate healthcare regulatory college in Alberta
• Must be legally authorized and competent to administer intramuscular injections in Alberta
• Nursing designation such as Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse is strongly preferred for candidates applying as a Research Nurse
• Previous experience administering vaccines, medications, or intramuscular injections
• Strong knowledge of clinical procedures, infection prevention practices, and medication administration principles
• Current ICH GCP certification or willingness to complete required certification prior to beginning study activities
• Ability to follow detailed clinical trial protocols, pharmacy manuals, and written procedures precisely
• Strong documentation skills with exceptional attention to accuracy and detail
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and protect blinded study information
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while collaborating effectively with the broader research team
• Availability for the full temporary contract period of approximately 4 to 6 weeks
• Flexibility in working hours based on participant scheduling and study requirements
