Full job description

Saltworks Technologies is a leading Canadian cleantech company solving two of the world's most pressing challenges: water sustainability and critical minerals supply. We design and build advanced industrial water treatment and lithium refining systems for global leaders in semiconductors, mining, automotive, and industrial processing.

Saltworks is a 2025 Technology Fast 50 company and EY Entrepreneur of the Year award winner. We lead our industry in adopting and developing AI across our products, projects, and operations. Join us and build skills defining the next era of engineering and industrial systems.

The role:

Saltworks Technologies has an immediate opening for an Senior IT Systems Specialist. You will be the backbone of our technology infrastructure — owning everything from on-premises servers and cloud platforms to enterprise applications, security, and AI tooling. We are looking for a senior, hands-on engineer who can operate independently, lead technical initiatives, and keep our systems secure, stable, and scalable as we grow.

This is an onsite role at our office in Richmond, BC, with limited opportunity for remote work. You must be located in or be willing to relocate to the Lower Mainland.

Your primary areas of responsibility are:

System Administration:

  • Configuration, deployment and maintenance of host servers, VMs, storage, clusters, containers, and networking.
  • AD, Group Policy, certificates, OU management, and access.
  • Manage Microsoft 365 and Entra: groups, permissions, Enterprise Apps, and GSA.
  • SharePoint: creation, access control, external users and groups.
  • Manage MDM/RMM platforms including Intune and NinjaOne.
  • Administer cloud platforms: Azure (Databricks, resource groups, permissions) and AWS (IAM, EC2, storage, firewall, etc.).
  • AI tooling: connectors, user management, and related infrastructure.
Application and Asset Management:
  • Administer enterprise software including SQL/PostgreSQL, SYSPRO, EPLAN, ARAS PLM, GitLab, and other business-critical systems.
  • Manage software and hardware asset lifecycle across on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments.
  • Maintain backup solutions for VMs, configurations, and code — both on-premises and in the cloud.
Network Security:
  • Configure and maintain networking infrastructure including firewalls, switches, and site-to-site communication.
  • Deploy and configure SIEM and internal security applications and solutions.
  • Review logs and security events; handle incidents using Microsoft Defender and related tools.
  • Conduct regular system audits to detect vulnerabilities and mitigate risks.
  • Implement security protocols to ensure network stability and safeguard data integrity.
  • Manage IT risks, audits, and damage control.
Technical Support and Project Management:
  • Provide direct technical support for IT infrastructure, ongoing and new projects, and end-user issues.
  • Resolve technical challenges promptly and efficiently in compliance with company policies.
  • Collaborate with the IT Manager and project stakeholders to plan and execute system upgrades, migrations, and new technology deployments.
You will be a great fit if you have:
  • A degree, diploma, or certificate in Information Technology or a related field.
  • 7+ years in system and network administration, both on-premises and in the cloud — including Hyper-V, clusters, storage, Active Directory, Group Policy, MDM, Entra, Intune, Microsoft 365, SharePoint, hybrid environments, ZTNA, and Linux systems.
  • Hands-on background with cloud platforms including Azure (Databricks, resource groups) and AWS (IAM, EC2, storage, firewall).
  • Proven ability deploying and managing networks, VMs, firewalls, access control, RMM systems (NinjaOne, Intune), backup solutions, and user administration in hybrid environments.
  • Familiarity administering enterprise software platforms such as SQL/PostgreSQL, ERP, PLM, or DevOps tools (e.g. GitLab, Docker).
  • Working knowledge of AI tooling, connectors, or related infrastructure management.
  • Proficiency automating administrative tasks using PowerShell, Bash, or similar scripting languages.
  • A track record supporting IT systems in a corporate environment with 100+ users.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives and prevent system issues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to independently deliver complex technical initiatives.
The following qualifications are preferred but not required:
  • Proficiency in coding and DevOps tools: Git and Docker.
  • Background in database administration for SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or similar platforms.
  • Familiarity with IT system lifecycle management and business continuity concepts.
  • Knowledge of enterprise ERP and PLM systems.
