Whether you work in the skilled trades or are a business professional, a career at OPG is an opportunity to electrify your life on - and off - the job.

JOB OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Senior Manager IT Services, this position is responsible for the end-to-end administration, governance, security, reliability, and optimization of OPG’s enterprise Databricks and data platform environments across Azure, on-premises, and hybrid ecosystems. The role will support the modern data lakehouse foundation that enables trusted analytics, data engineering, business intelligence, and emerging AI use cases across the enterprise.

The successful candidate will administer and evolve Databricks workspaces, Unity Catalog, access controls, compute policies, jobs, clusters, storage integrations, and platform standards, while also supporting enterprise database platforms, high availability/disaster recovery, backup/recovery, performance tuning, security, and compliance obligations.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Administer, configure, and support enterprise Databricks environments, including workspaces, clusters, jobs, libraries, compute policies, workspace settings, platform integrations, and operational standards. Ensure Databricks services are secure, reliable, scalable, cost-effective, and aligned with enterprise data platform objectives.
  • Administer Databricks Unity Catalog governance, including metastore management, catalogs, schemas, tables, volumes, external locations, storage credentials, identity and access controls, privilege governance, lineage support, and catalog/schema design aligned to security, privacy, compliance, and audit requirements.
  • Install, configure, and administer relational and NoSQL platforms (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Cosmos DB), ensuring stable, scalable, and standards-based deployments.
  • Deploy, operate, and optimize cloud database services (e.g., Azure SQL DB and related Azure data services), ensuring secure connectivity, reliability, and cost-effective performance.
  • Design, implement, and regularly test HA/DR architectures to meet business continuity objectives (e.g., RTO/RPO) and minimize service downtime.
  • Execute routine operational tasks—including health checks, patching, and version upgrades—while maintaining compliance, reducing risk, and improving overall platform stability.
  • Proactively monitor database health and performance; conduct query tuning, indexing strategies, and workload optimization to maintain response times and meet SLAs.
  • Implement, monitor, and validate backup/restore procedures and recovery drills to protect enterprise data and ensure rapid restoration when required.
  • Enforce security controls (RBAC, encryption, secrets management), remediate vulnerabilities, and support audit/internal control activities with evidence, logging, and governance practices.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 4-Year University education in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 6+ years of experience in database administration and cloud data platform management, including on-prem and Azure databases, HA/DR, performance tuning, backup/recovery, security/compliance, and Databricks Unity Catalog governance.
  • Proven experience managing Azure database services (e.g., Azure SQL DB) including deployment, configuration, monitoring, and cost/performance optimization.
  • Demonstrated expertise designing, implementing, and testing high availability and disaster recovery solutions, with clear understanding of RTO/RPO objectives.
  • Strong skills in database performance monitoring and optimization, including query tuning, indexing strategies, and troubleshooting complex production issues.
  • Experience implementing and validating backup/restore strategies and conducting recovery testing to ensure data protection and rapid restoration.
  • Working knowledge of database security and compliance practices (RBAC, encryption, vulnerability remediation, audit support) plus administration of Databricks Unity Catalog (metastore, access controls, privilege governance, external locations, catalog/schema design).

The successful candidate will exhibit uncompromising integrity and commitment to upholding corporate values, and the OPG Code of Business Conduct.

OPG is committed to fostering an inclusive, equitable, and accessible environment. If you require accommodation during the selection process, please contact AODA@opg.com

With operations across Ontario, OPG is one of the most diverse power producers in North America. As the largest generator in Ontario, we meet approximately 50% of the province’s electricity needs, largely from low-carbon sources like nuclear and hydro.

As we work to achieve our vision of Electrifying life in one generation, OPG and our family of companies are also helping advance the development of new low-carbon technologies such as Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), refurbishment projects, and electrification initiatives to help power the growing demands of a growing economy. Join OPG and make history.

Please submit your application online at https://jobs.opg.com/. OPG thanks all those who apply; however, only candidates considered for an interview will be contacted.

Please note: All job postings at OPG are to fill existing vacancies within our organization.

OPG may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools as part of the applicant screening process. However, applications will also be reviewed by a member of our Recruitment team to ensure a fair and thorough assessment.

The base salary range considers many factors including, but not limited to experience, education, and training, including any collective agreement requirements for union represented positions. It is not typical for the salary to be offered near the top of the range, and salary is dependent on numerous factors. For management roles, the base salary range does not represent the total compensation package. The total compensation package for regular full-time management roles includes pay-for-performance programs for annual and medium time periods. Maintaining a high-performance culture and excellence is a core expectation of every member of our leadership team and is rewarded through the established compensation framework.

OPG is committed to employment equity. As such, we encourage applicants from equity-seeking communities (Indigenous Peoples, racialized persons, persons with disabilities, and women). We strongly believe that alleviating the under-representation of equity-seeking individuals will create a stronger OPG team and allow us to better serve the needs of our diverse communities.

In order to fulfill the above-mentioned purpose, priority in hiring may be given to qualified persons who self-identify as a member of equity-seeking groups as identified in the application process. This initiative constitutes a special program under the Human Rights Code/Canadian Human Rights Act.
