Join the TravelVAX Virtual Nurse Consultant Team
TravelVAX is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team as a Virtual Nurse Consultant.
This is an exciting opportunity for a nurse who enjoys patient education, travel medicine, and working in a fast-paced virtual environment. Extensive training will be provided, making this role ideal for nurses who are eager to expand their knowledge and develop expertise in travel health.
Position Summary
As a Virtual Nurse Consultant, you will provide comprehensive virtual travel health consultations, educate patients, and collaborate with our physicians and clinical team to develop individualized travel health recommendations. This is a year-round salaried position. While consultation volumes are highest during travel season, responsibilities may shift to support other clinical and operational initiatives during slower periods.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive virtual travel health consultations with patients.
- Assess travel itineraries, medical history, immunization records, and individual health risks.
- Provide evidence-based travel health recommendations and patient education.
- Develop individualized vaccination and medication recommendations in collaboration with TravelVAX physicians.
- Prepare accurate consultation documentation and treatment plans.
- Respond to patient inquiries before and after consultations.
- Collaborate closely with physicians, pharmacists, nurses, and administrative staff to ensure exceptional patient care.
- Conduct Yellow Fever consultation appointments, assess patient eligibility based on current guidelines, provide patient education, and collaborate with the TravelVAX team as required to facilitate vaccination recommendations and documentation.
- Stay current with travel medicine guidelines, vaccine recommendations, and emerging infectious diseases.
- Maintain a high standard of professionalism, confidentiality, and patient-centered care.
Non-Travel Season Responsibilities
During periods of lower consultation volume, the Virtual Nurse Consultant will be expected to assist with administrative and operational projects as delegated by the RN Educator, Operations Manager, and Operations Coordinator. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Assisting with clinical documentation and quality improvement initiatives.
- Developing and updating educational resources.
- Assisting with policy and procedure development and revisions.
- Supporting staff education and training initiatives.
- Participating in workflow optimization and operational improvement projects.
- Providing additional administrative support as required to meet organizational needs.
Training
Successful candidates will participate in a comprehensive training program designed to prepare them for success in this specialized role.
Training includes:
- Structured virtual education sessions.
- Self-directed learning modules and assigned resources.
- Shadowing and mentorship from experienced Virtual Nurse Consultants.
- Knowledge assessments throughout the training period.
- Ongoing coaching and support following onboarding.
Candidates should be prepared to dedicate time to both scheduled training sessions and independent study. Successful completion of the training program is required before independently conducting virtual consultations.
Qualifications
- Current registration as an RN in good standing with the applicable regulatory college in British Columbia.
- Current CPR certification.
- Excellent communication and patient education skills.
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking abilities.
- Comfortable using electronic medical records and virtual communication platforms.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Reliable high-speed internet connection and a quiet, professional workspace suitable for virtual consultations.
What We Offer
- Full-time salaried position.
- Comprehensive paid training with ongoing mentorship and support.
- Opportunities for professional growth and specialization in travel medicine.
- Extended health and dental benefits.
- A collaborative, supportive, and innovative team environment.

- Is adaptable and enjoys learning new clinical skills.
- Is able to independently solve and manage complex situations.
- Works well independently in a remote environment.
