Location - This role is in-person at the Lois Hole Hospital for Women, Royal Alexandra Hospital.

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is a Centre of Excellence in education, research and clinical care in women's health.

The department has five academic divisions, 19 full-time academic faculty members, and over 100 clinical academic colleagues in general obstetrics and gynecology. Our faculty members encompass the full range of academic medicine including Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility, Gynecological Oncology, Reproductive Sciences and Urogynecology.

Internationally recognized for our innovative, collaborative and multidisciplinary approaches, we are positively impacting the health of women.

Position Summary

Unlike traditional academic positions, AMHSP positions are unique opportunities that allow for the development of a viable academic career in conjunction with a clinical career. Competitively funded protected time for education and/or research is embedded in all AMHSP positions. As part of the new Obstetrics and Gynecology AMHSP and support of the medical school expansion, we are recruiting a clinician educator to support postgraduate and undergraduate medical education and the northern medical school expansion. OBGYN is a core part of the medical school training providing education in pre-clinical Repro block, 3rd year core clinical clerkship, surgery 556 selective in 4th year, and electives. We also have an expanding residency program related to the medical school expansion.

The Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry is one of the world’s top academic health science centres. With 21 departments, multiple research institutes and centres, and a focus on excellence in education, research, and clinical care, the faculty trains outstanding medical and dental professionals and drives global health innovation in collaboration with partners across sectors.
  • This AMHSP general OBGYN position will support the curriculum development and scheduling, assessment (including OSCEs), orientation, lectures and small group learning, and the education coordinators at the hospital teaching sites (RAH, GNH, MCH, SCH, and Grande Prairie). It will also support medical student and residency education
  • The AMHSP OBGYN will also help support the Grande Prairie Medical School Northern expansion.
  • This position will support the longitudinal residency teaching clinic and the gynecology rapid access clinic at the RAH
  • This position will actively participate in medical education and/or research

Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidates for this position must already hold a position in the division of general obstetrics and gynecology within the Urban Edmonton corridor in the Department of Obstetrics of Gynecology.
  • Candidates must be certified or eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons as an Obstetrician Gynecologist and have or be eligible for full licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
  • The position will allow up to 0.5 FTE for medical education or research; the remaining FTE will be clinical services with AHS. Participation in a call schedule for general obstetrics and gynecology will also be an expectation of this position.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preference will be given to physicians with previous interest in and/or additional medical education and/or research training.

Remuneration for this position will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and based on the income scale of the six-step Academic Medicine and Health Services Program (AMHSP).

The successful candidate will be offered a tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, which is in accordance with Schedule A of the Collective Agreement between the Board of Governors of the University of Alberta and the Association of the Academic Staff of the University of Alberta.
