Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled and certified Marine Travelift Operator to join our team at Granville Island Boatyard. This role is vital for the safe and efficient handling of marine equipment, supporting vessel movements, and ensuring operational excellence within our maritime operations. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical knowledge, expertise in rigging, and a commitment to safety standards. This position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic maritime environment with a focus on precision and professionalism.

Duties

  • Operate Marine Travelifts to safely haul, launch, transport, position, and block vessels up to the facility's operating capacity.
  • Develop, manage, and maintain the daily and weekly haul-out, launch, and vessel movement schedule to maximize the efficient use of the Travelift, yard space, and personnel.
  • Conduct rigging procedures and verify proper sling placement to ensure vessels are safely secured before lifting or transporting.
  • Coordinate with dock personnel, vessel owners, contractors, and vessel crews to facilitate safe and efficient vessel movements.
  • Perform daily pre-operational inspections and routine preventative maintenance on the Travelift and associated lifting equipment, identifying maintenance requirements and minimizing operational downtime.
  • Maintain accurate equipment inspection records, maintenance logs, operational checklists, and documentation of all vessel lifts and transfers.
  • Organize and maintain blocking materials, jack stands, slings, and equipment storage areas to ensure a safe, efficient, and well-maintained boatyard.
  • Assist with mechanical troubleshooting and minor repairs to Travelifts and related equipment when appropriate.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety policies, WorkSafeBC regulations, manufacturer operating procedures, and the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Support overall boatyard operations by maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work environment and assisting with other operational duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Valid certification as a Marine Travelift Operator is required.
  • Must have a BC Drivers license
  • Proven experience operating Marine Travelifts in a maritime or industrial setting.
  • Strong rigging skills with knowledge of load securing techniques.
  • Mechanical knowledge related to marine lifting equipment is highly desirable.
  • Ability to read technical manuals, diagrams, and safety instructions effectively.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to safety standards.
  • Ability to work in outdoor conditions and handle physically demanding tasks.
  • Strong communication skills for coordinating with team members and vessel crews.

This role is essential for maintaining safe, efficient, and reliable maritime operations, supporting the movement of vessels and heavy equipment within our facility while adhering to industry safety standards.

Pay: $37.00-$42.00 per hour
