Full job description

Poly B Plumbing Guys has grown quickly.

Now we're looking for the person who can help us grow properly.

We are a specialized Canadian home-services company focused exclusively on Poly-B pipe replacement. What started as a focused service offering has developed into a multi-market operation serving customers across Alberta and British Columbia, with significant opportunities for continued expansion.

We've proven the model.

The next stage is about building the organization around it.

We're looking for an exceptional General Manager to work directly with ownership and take increasing responsibility for the day-to-day performance of the company.

This is not a caretaker position.

We want a builder.

Someone who can take a successful entrepreneurial business, strengthen its management structure, create accountability, improve systems, develop leaders and help turn what we've built into an organization capable of operating at a much larger scale.

THE MISSION

Your job is simple to describe and considerably harder to accomplish:

Build a company that runs exceptionally well without the owners having to run everything themselves.

That means creating structure without burying the company in bureaucracy.

It means holding people accountable without killing initiative.

It means understanding the numbers, the customer, the crews and the business well enough to know where things are breaking before they actually break.

And it means developing systems that work whether we're completing 50 jobs a month or 500.

WHAT YOU'LL OWN

You will have oversight of the operational side of the business, including sales, scheduling, customer service, plumbing operations, drywall/restoration operations, administration and overall job performance.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading, coaching and holding managers and team members accountable.
  • Building a strong management structure with clear responsibilities and decision-making authority.
  • Creating measurable KPIs and operating rhythms across departments.
  • Improving the entire customer journey from lead to estimate, sale, scheduling, production, payment and follow-up.
  • Identifying operational bottlenecks and actually fixing them.
  • Improving scheduling, labour utilization, capacity planning and job profitability.
  • Building standardized procedures and SOPs that can be duplicated across markets.
  • Ensuring every location delivers a consistent Poly B Plumbing Guys customer experience.
  • Developing stronger reporting and visibility into company performance.
  • Working with ownership on budgets, forecasts, margins and strategic priorities.
  • Recruiting and developing strong leaders as the organization grows.
  • Managing customer escalations and improving systems so the same problems don't keep happening.
  • Helping evaluate and launch new markets.
  • Building the operational infrastructure required for future franchising and national expansion.
  • Making the company less dependent on any individual person, including the owners.

WHAT WE DON'T NEED

We don't need somebody who needs to be told what to do every morning.

We don't need another layer of management whose contribution is scheduling meetings about scheduling meetings.

And we don't necessarily need a plumber.

Industry knowledge can be learned.

Leadership, judgement, accountability and the ability to build an organization are much harder to teach.

WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR

You have successfully managed a significant service, construction, trades or field-service organization and understand the controlled chaos that comes with running dozens of projects, employees, subcontractors and customers at the same time.

Ideally, you bring:

  • 7+ years of progressive management experience.
  • Senior leadership experience in a multi-department organization.
  • Experience managing managers, not simply individual employees.
  • Strong financial and operational understanding, including budgets, margins, forecasting and KPIs.
  • Experience with construction, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, restoration, roofing or another field-service business.
  • Experience improving systems and processes in a growing company.
  • Strong understanding of CRM, project-management and operational software.
  • Experience expanding into multiple locations or markets is a significant asset.
  • Franchise, acquisition, integration or private-equity-backed business experience would be highly valuable.
  • The ability to have difficult conversations and make decisions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • A track record of building high-performing teams.

Most importantly, you take ownership.

When something isn't working, your instinct isn't to explain why.

It's to fix it.

Don't come to me with a problem. Come to me with a solution.

THE OPPORTUNITY

This isn't a General Manager role where you inherit a mature company and spend the next five years protecting somebody else's processes.

We're still building.

That means you'll have real authority and real influence over what Poly B Plumbing Guys becomes.

You'll work directly with ownership on company strategy and have the opportunity to help build:

  • A scalable Canadian operating platform.
  • Additional corporate markets.
  • A multi location franchise system.
  • A stronger executive and management team.
  • Repeatable operating systems.
  • A nationally recognized specialty home-services brand.

For the right person, this position has the potential to develop beyond General Manager into a senior executive leadership role as the company grows.

COMPENSATION

We intend to pay for performance.

The compensation package will include:

  • Competitive executive-level base salary.
  • Meaningful performance-based bonus.
  • Vehicle allowance or company vehicle.
  • Extended health benefits.
  • Paid vacation.
  • Additional long-term compensation opportunities for exceptional performance and increased responsibility.

Final compensation will depend on experience and demonstrated ability.

ONE LAST THING

We care much more about what you've actually built than the title printed on your last business card.

If you've helped take a company from entrepreneurial chaos to an accountable, scalable operation, we want to hear that story.

When applying, please include your resume and a short explanation answering:

What is the most significant operational improvement you personally led, and what measurable result did it produce?

Generic applications are easy to spot.

We're looking for the person who wants to build the next version of this company.
