Job Summary

The Facility Administrator is the accountable leader responsible for the overall operational, financial, and regulatory performance of a large, regulated health care facility. The role is focused on enterprise-style facility management—ensuring systems, people, and resources are aligned to deliver consistent, compliant, and financially sound operations. This position is suited to experienced operators who have managed complex facilities and large workforces (100+ employees) in regulated or unionized environments. Clinical licensure is not required; success in this role is driven by operational discipline, leadership, and execution.

Core Responsibilities

Governance and Accountability

  • Act as the accountable executive for facility performance within Board-approved strategy, policy, and budget.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with regulators, auditors, and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure timely, accurate reporting on operational performance, risks, and material issues.
  • Maintain clear accountability frameworks and decision-rights across the facility.

Financial and Business Management

  • Operate the facility within approved budgets and financial plans.
  • Lead annual business planning, forecasting, and budget development.
  • Monitor financial performance, manage variances, and control operating costs.
  • Safeguard facility assets and ensure appropriate insurance and risk coverage are maintained.

Operations and Execution

  • Direct day-to-day facility operations to ensure efficiency, consistency, and regulatory alignment.
  • Establish and maintain systems, processes, and controls that support scale and reliability.
  • Monitor key operational indicators and initiate corrective actions where performance deviates from plan.
  • Ensure effective coordination across all functional areas of the facility.

Workforce and Labour Oversight

  • Provide executive oversight of staffing models, workforce utilization, and leadership capability.
  • Oversee labour relations, including collective agreements, grievances, and disciplinary processes where applicable.
  • Ensure performance management, training, and accountability systems are in place.

Regulatory Compliance and Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable legislation, licensing, accreditation, and regulatory standards.
  • Maintain readiness for inspections, audits, and regulatory reviews.
  • Oversee incident management, emergency preparedness, and business continuity planning.
  • Escalate material risks or compliance concerns promptly to governance bodies.

Strategy and Continuous Improvement

  • Translate Board-approved strategy into executable facility-level plans.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives across operations, workforce, and systems.
  • Monitor industry trends and regulatory changes impacting facility operations.

Work Environment

  • Full-Time on-site leadership role within a complex operational environment.
  • High interaction role with frequent interruptions and competing priorities.

Schedule and Availability

  • Full-time leadership role.
  • Availability outside regular business hours for escalations or critical issues as required.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Undergraduate degree in business, management, public administration, or a related field.
  • Graduate education in administration or operations considered an asset.
  • Minimum 5–7 years’ experience in senior operations, facility management, or general management roles.
  • Demonstrated experience managing large workforces (100+ employees).
  • Experience in regulated and/or unionized environments considered an asset.
  • Strong financial, operational, and leadership capabilities.
