Full job description

Overview
Harvest Meats is seeking a Laboratory Technician to support our food safety and quality programs in a fast-paced, ready-to-eat meat production facility.

This position plays a key role in ensuring product safety and compliance through routine microbiological, allergen, and environmental testing.

Duties

  • Perform microbiological testing on finished products (e.g., Listeria monocytogenes, Salmonella spp.) using rapid methods
  • Conduct environmental swabbing on RTE food contact surfaces and support environmental monitoring programs
  • Perform allergen testing (e.g., milk, gluten, mustard, soy) using rapid test kits
  • Complete routine lab testing including APC, yeast & mold, and shelf-life studies
  • Prepare samples, perform dilutions, and maintain aseptic technique to prevent cross-contamination
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment (including pipettes, incubators, and autoclave)
  • Accurately record, track, and report test results
  • Identify out-of-spec results and escalate to QA as required
  • Maintain lab cleanliness, organization, and proper disposal of biological materials
  • Support QA investigations and continuous improvement initiatives as needed

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in Food Science, Microbiology, Biology, or related field preferred
  • Equivalent hands-on laboratory experience in a food manufacturing environment will be considered
  • Working knowledge of microbiological and/or allergen testing methods is an asset
  • Understanding of HACCP, GMPs, and food safety programs is an asset
