Full job description
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Lead Chemist for Product Development on a contract basis (12 months). Reporting to the Plant Manager, this position will be responsible for overseeing the formulation, chemistry, Quality control and performance of Gentem's thermoplastic and paint product portfolio, while ensuring product quality, cost optimization, regulatory approvals, and ongoing product development initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Develop and optimize thermoplastic and paint formulations to achieve the highest product quality while driving cost efficiencies.
- Research, evaluate, test procedures and qualify alternative raw materials and suppliers to enhance product performance, supply reliability, and cost competitiveness.
- Design, conduct, and analyze product performance testing to ensure compliance with internal standards and external approval requirements.
- Provide technical expertise and support to Operations teams to ensure consistent manufacturing processes and product quality.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support customer requirements, expand product qualifications, and drive growth of the Qualified Products List (QPL).
- Lead research and development initiatives focused on innovative road marking solutions and the development of new Gentem products and technologies.
- Manage laboratory operations, including the maintenance, calibration, and proper functioning of testing equipment and instruments.
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements by maintaining and updating Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and related product documentation.
- Conduct ongoing competitive analysis to benchmark product performance against industry standards.
- Train and guide production staff on safe and proper handling of chemicals, material used in formulations and use of PPE
- Monitor industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes to support continuous product improvement and innovation.
- Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific discipline; advanced degrees preferred.
- Proven experience in laboratory research, product development, and quality control within a manufacturing setting.
- Strong knowledge of chemical analysis techniques, formulation science, and laboratory safety procedures.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to manage projects and mentor team members effectively.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with an emphasis on analytical thinking and innovation.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes, regulatory standards, and industry best practices related to chemical products.
- Prior experience in research environments involving product lifecycle management is highly desirable.
Pay: $90,000.00-$95,000.00 per year
