Donald’s Fine Foods is a family-owned business and has operated for over 30 years. We are a specialty meat processing and distribution company spanning six plants in Alberta, British Columbia and Saskatchewan, serving both domestic and international markets.

We are currently looking to hire a Quality Assurance Technician to join our team in Moose Jaw, SK.

Brief Job Description

The Quality Assurance Technician will be detail oriented and responsible for performing daily quality assurance duties to assure food safety and product quality. The QA Technician will play a key role in ensuring compliance with quality procedures, regulatory requirements and company policies.

Responsibilites:

Food Safety & Quality

  • Conduct pre-operational inspection and verify sanitation effectiveness through visual inspection and microbial swab analysis.
  • Monitor employees, enforce GMPs and notify supervisors of any GMP violation.
  • Conduct in-process and finished product quality and specification audits including carcasses, carcass parts and edilble offal products.
  • Ensure critical control and process points are met and verified.
  • Demonstrate a good understanding of the Modernized Slaughter Inspection Program(MSIP)
  • Conduct scale checks and label verification during production.
  • Monitor and ensure adherence to hold/release procedures.
  • Verify equipment functionality and perform equipment calibrations.
  • Perform data entry, file and maintain quality assurance records.
  • Perform general laboratory duties e.g. sampling, media preparation and plating.
  • Track and maintain in-house and third party laboratory results.
  • Assist in employee training and customer complaint trend analysis.
  • Assist in developing/modifying GMP training material, quality assurance policies and procedures.
  • Assist with auditing process SOPs for accuracy.
  • Coach employees in all aspects of GMP.
  • Other duties as required.

Leadership

  • Exemplify the DFF values of People, Safety, Integrity, Quality and Customer Focus.
  • Coach employees on GMP.
  • Adhere to and promote Company procedures and policies at all times.

Safety

  • Provide and maintain a safe working environment for all employees and visiting customers.
  • Work with the team towards achieving zero lost time and medical incidents.
  • Adhere to the rules, regulations, and labour as per the site policies on OH&S.

Critical KPIs

  • Number of CFIA CVS.
  • BRC Rating.
  • Customer Complaints Reduction.
  • Number of non-conformities.
  • Number of GMP violations.

Position Requirements

  • University degree and/or diploma in a Science related program (Chemistry, Biochemistry, Food Science, Microbiology or Biological Sciences).
  • Knowledge in general quality and food safety principles.
  • Knowledge of HACCP and other Food Safety Programs.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in a refrigerated environment.
  • Sitting and standing for extended periods of time.
  • Rotating schedule, weekends and evenings required.
