Full job description

Kitchen Helper Responsibilities

  • Assist cooks and kitchen staff with basic food preparation, including washing, peeling, cutting, and portioning ingredients.
  • Prepare simple food items as directed by supervisors and kitchen staff.
  • Wash dishes, utensils, pots, pans, and kitchen equipment promptly and efficiently.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen work areas, food preparation surfaces, storage areas, and equipment.
  • Sweep, mop, and sanitize floors and remove garbage and recycling throughout each shift.
  • Receive, unpack, label, rotate, and properly store food and supply deliveries following FIFO (First In, First Out) procedures.
  • Monitor inventory levels and advise management of shortages or damaged products.
  • Ensure all food products are handled, stored, and transported safely according to food safety standards.
  • Assist with stocking and organizing kitchen supplies, dry storage, coolers, and freezers.
  • Support opening and closing kitchen duties as assigned.
  • Follow all workplace health, safety, sanitation, and company policies and procedures.
  • Work cooperatively with kitchen and front-of-house team members to maintain efficient operations.
  • Maintain a friendly, professional, and respectful attitude toward guests, co-workers, and management.
  • Respond promptly to supervisor instructions and complete assigned tasks efficiently.
  • Help ensure a clean, organized, and safe kitchen environment at all times.
  • Perform other related duties as reasonably assigned by management.

  • Previous kitchen, food service, janitorial, or hospitality experience is an asset but not required.

  • Able to frequently lift and carry up to 50 lb.

  • Flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts as required.
  • Consistently reliable, punctual, and ready to work each scheduled shift.

Required Certifications

  • Food Handlers Certificate (required or willingness to obtain within a specified timeframe)
  • WHMIS Certification
  • Standard First Aid (or willingness to obtain within a specified timeframe)

Pay: $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 30.0 – 40.0 per week
