Works closely with: Executive Assistant, Admin Assistant, COO, Director of Finance

Job Overview:

The Hitgwin! Qaumata Miyopimâtisiwin Foundation (HQMF) is seeking a Junior Programs Officer to support the coordination, delivery, and administration of programs, services, and funding streams that advance the Foundation’s mission, with a strong emphasis on wellness and survivor support, education, and culture and language reclamation for Indian Boarding Home Program Survivors (Percival v Canada). This role plays a key operational and relationship-support function—helping to deliver grants, bursaries, scholarships, and wellness initiatives, while contributing to program growth areas such as educational workshops, community outreach, research, and public awareness. The position is ideal for an early-career individual seeking professional experience in program delivery, community engagement, and funding administration within a trauma-informed, culturally grounded environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Program Coordination & Delivery

  • Support the implementation of programs aligned with the Wellness Strategy, including: Wellness sessions, regional gatherings; Cultural, educational, and community-based initiatives.
  • Assist with logistics for all foundation events.
  • Assist with program scheduling, participant tracking, and documentation.

Grants, Bursaries & Scholarships Administration

  • Support the administration of funding streams such as: Scholarships and Bursaries; Community-based grants (e.g., cultural gatherings, commemoration initiatives)
  • Assist with: Application intake, tracking, and eligibility screening; Communication with applicants and recipients; Maintain accurate records and support reporting on funding outcomes

Community Outreach & Promotion

  • Assist in maintaining communication channels: Social media and website updates; Email communications and newsletters.

Administrative & Operational Support

  • Assist in maintaining organized program files, databases, and tracking systems.
  • Support budgeting processes by tracking program-related expenses.
  • Assist with report preparation for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide general support to the Programs team.

Education, Experience, and Knowledge

  • Diploma or degree in social sciences, public administration, Indigenous studies, or community development, or a High School diploma with a minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in administration, administrative support, and public service-oriented work, with an emphasis on Indigenous contexts, and a willingness to take relevant training.
  • Understanding of: Indigenous history of residential schools, Indian boarding homes program, the sixties scoop, and related trauma and recovery; Community-based program delivery.
  • Evidence of organizational and administrative skills.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and timelines, and work independently.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other computer software.
