The opportunity:

Associated Environmental Consultants, part of the Associated Engineering Group of companies, is a proudly Canadian, employee-owned organization. We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Contaminated Sites Scientist to join our team in our Edmonton office. In this role you will be responsible for supporting environmental projects through field data collection, analysis, and technical input for Phase I and II assessments, landfill monitoring, lagoon management, remediation, and contaminated sites work. This role is well suited to a junior to intermediate‑level scientist eager to build hands‑on experience across a wide range of environmental projects and settings.

What you’ll do:

  • Contribute to environmental projects through field data collection, analysis, and technical input across Phase I and II assessments, landfill monitoring programs, lagoon management and monitoring, remediation, and contaminated sites work.
  • Participate in field programs throughout the province.
  • Prepare high‑quality scientific and technical reports, including permit and regulatory documentation.
  • Support technical specialists through regulatory and approval processes.
  • Manage time and task-level budgets for assigned work.

Does this sound like you?

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline.
  • 3-5+ years post-graduation contaminated sites experience in environmental consulting, monitoring or applied research, including field experience.
  • Demonstrated evidence of field skills including groundwater sampling, soil sampling and direction of drilling contractors.
  • Registration with a professional organization in Alberta (including P.Ag, P.Geo or P.Chem), or eligibility for registration, is an asset.
  • Willingness to work in the field in remote locations.
  • Knowledge of provincial and federal legislation and regulatory requirements surrounding contaminated sites.
  • Self motivated with strong time management and organizational ability.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Ability to follow direction and take initiative.
  • Commitment to quality work.
  • Valid driver’s licence.
