Basin Environmental Ltd. is an environmental consulting company based out of Sherwood Park & Calgary, Alberta. Basin offers environmental services to a diverse client base including oil and gas, transportation, renewable energy, land development, real-estate, agriculture, and telecommunication groups.

Currently we have an immediate opening for the following position: Junior / Intermediate Environmental

Scientist. This remote based role is positioned in the Calgary area.

Under the general supervision of the team lead and senior management, this position is responsible for completing fieldwork and reporting associated with various projects throughout western Canada. Key responsibilities include providing technical support of soils, reclamation, or remediation related matters for our team. This role will require field and reporting support for Pre-Construction Soil Assessments, Soil Monitoring during Construction, Phase 1 and 2 Environmental Site Assessments, Groundwater Monitoring Assessments, Remedial Actions, and Reclamation Soil and Vegetation Assessments. The successful candidate will ensure high quality project work and approaches are utilized to provide efficient and timely solutions for a variety of projects. Additional responsibilities will include proposal support, subcontractor supervision, and budget tracking.

Qualifications:

· Post-secondary education in environmental sciences, earth sciences, physical geography, agriculture, or other relevant discipline. A graduate degree (M.Sc.) in a related discipline would be an asset.

· Eligible to be registered in a professional designation in Alberta to include Alberta Institute of Agrologists (AIA), Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA), Alberta Society of Professional Biologists (ASET), etc.

· A minimum of 1-2 years of work-related experience.

· Knowledge of the Canadian System of Soil Classification.

· Knowledge of field sampling methods for soil, surface water, and groundwater.

· Vegetation and/or weed identification skills are an asset.

· Thorough understanding of Alberta reclamation and remediation guidelines. Experience with other jurisdiction guidelines (i.e., federal, British Columbia, and/or Saskatchewan) are an asset.

· Knowledge of planning, land-use and environmental regulations/policies.

  • Strong data analysis and technical reporting skills.

· Strong communication and scientific writing skills.

· A valid driver's licence and clean driving record is required.
