Be part of a dynamic, collaborative and caring organization committed to saving and improving lives. Thousands of patients depend on us every day for reliable access to safe blood, plasma, stem cells and organs and tissues.
About the role
Canadian Blood Services is seeking a Development Scientist I (analytical focus) for a two-year temporary full-time position within the dynamic Network Centre for Applied Development (NetCAD) team in the Innovation and Portfolio Management group of the Innovation division.
The NetCAD team is responsible for supporting product and process development for fresh blood components and providing blood to researchers through the Blood4Research program.
In this role, you will be a member of the NetCAD blood and blood component development team which works to deepen the understanding of products and the processes used to manufacture them, including developing new, and improving current products and processes. Reporting to the lead development scientist, and working closely with a team of development scientists, you will provide technical support for analytical testing used to characterize blood and blood products. You will contribute to assay development and characterization studies, conduct lab-based assays and tests, analyze and interpret data, and help generate robust scientific evidence to advance product and process development initiatives. Your focus will be to support projects introducing new testing capabilities to netCAD and stabilizing current testing capabilities.
Formula for success

- Conduct complex laboratory assays and ensure accurate documentation of experimental activities and results.
- Support development studies, including laboratory testing, data collection, analysis, and reporting.

- Troubleshoot and support investigations related to analytical methods, working under the guidance of senior scientists.
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional stakeholders and contribute to a positive team environment.
- Work independently (i.e. to complete specific focused studies independently, including all elements from design and execution to data analysis and reporting) as well as a part of a large development project team, as determined by project needs.
- May contribute to national and international visibility of Canadian Blood Services development work by contributing to manuscript preparation for journal submission, or preparing and submitting abstracts to, and presenting posters and oral abstracts at, local, national and international blood industry conferences.
Desired education and skills
- PhD degree in a relevant scientific discipline, or a Master's degree with at least 3 year’s of research and development experience (preferably in assay development in blood component manufacturing or a related regulated industry).

- Experience with product or process development in a regulated environment is considered an asset.
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
