The Opportunity
We are seeking a Director, Human Resources & Administration to join our integrated leadership team and lead the people, culture, and administrative infrastructure of the clinic.
This is a senior, hands‑on, strategic HR leadership role. You will own the full HR lifecycle, oversee scheduling and payroll, maintain compliance, lead culture and engagement initiatives, and ensure the administrative systems of the clinic support high‑quality care. You will also serve as the cross‑trained backup for key financial and building operations functions, making this a uniquely impactful role in a growing, multidisciplinary environment.
If you thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced setting, love building systems, are passionate about animals, and want your work to directly support a mission‑driven healthcare team — this is the role for you.
What You’ll Do

- Oversee performance management processes, leadership development, and coaching for the management team
- Develop and maintain HR tools, policies, compliance, and the Employee Handbook in alignment with Saskatchewan legislation
- Oversee SVMA CE tracking and licence verification for regulated staff
- Lead engagement surveys, retention strategies, and culture‑building initiatives
Scheduling, Payroll & Administrative Systems
- Build and manage staff schedules across all departments to ensure operational coverage
- Administer payroll, benefits, and employee records with accuracy and confidentiality
- Oversee administrative systems and internal communications, and support vendor relationships
- Support development and implementation of operational systems (e.g., inventory management) in partnership with the Director of Operations
Cross‑Functional Leadership & Operational Continuity
- Serve as the cross‑trained backup for designated financial and building operations functions requiring sign‑off
- Act as the “people lead” when the Manager, Clinical Floor is away
- Provide performance management and coaching for the Manager, Clinical Floor
- Collaborate with the Director of Operations to ensure unified leadership, aligned decision‑making, and cohesive management practices
What You Bring
- 5+ years of progressive HR experience, including payroll and scheduling
- CPHR designation (or actively working toward it)
- Experience in healthcare, veterinary, or other regulated professional services (strong asset)
- Strong knowledge of the Saskatchewan Employment Act, OHS, WCB, and privacy requirements
- A calm, professional presence and a genuine love of animals
- Ability to be agile and flexible; providing consistent support within an environment of continual change
- Alignment with VMWC’s mission of improving mobility, comfort, and quality of life for pets and their families
What We Offer
- Competitive salary (commensurate with experience)
- Extended health & dental benefits
- CPHR support & professional development funding
- A compassionate, mission‑driven team that truly cares about each other and the pets we serve
