NIAGARA PROPAGATORS – GROWER

We are seeking a talented individual to join our team at Niagara Propagators. This role will be based at our Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario location. This is a role that requires the individual to work on-site.

The Grower will assist the Senior Grower in the day-to-day operations of Niagara Propagators. This role requires a detail-oriented and proactive individual who can handle the dynamic needs of a greenhouse environment.

Employment Type

  • Permanent
  • 40-60 hours per week. Additional time as required.
  • On-site

Responsibilities

  • In conjunction with the Grow Team, lead the development of spacing, growing, chemical, biosecurity and pest management strategies/requirements.
  • Monitor plant growth with an eye to continuously improving various requirements and strategies used to produce plants.
  • Leading the monitoring of plant health, quickly developing action plans to remedy identified issues, as required.
  • Operate various systems and equipment (e.g. climate control, irrigation, lighting).
  • As part of the greater team at Niagara Propagators, ensuring each plant meets strict quality standards.
  • Monitor industry trends, standards and technology.
  • Lead the Grow Team in the development and employment of best practices across the facility.
  • Collaborate and communicate with teams across the facility to maintain an efficient, safe and productive working environment.
  • Respond to emergency calls for after-hours greenhouse management and issues
  • Work weekends, holidays, and variable hours as required.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • 5–7 years of experience growing young vegetable plants in a greenhouse or propagation environment.
  • Previous experience planning and executing growing schedules, pest management strategies, and plant quality assurance.
  • Knowledge of greenhouse operations and associated risks.
  • Knowledge of health and safety practices within a greenhouse setting.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel)
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English. Other languages considered an asset.
  • Experience working with seasonal agricultural workers is considered an asset.
  • Previous experience with Priva climate control would be considered an asset.
