Who you are:

We are always looking for amazing talent who can contribute to our growth and deliver results! Geotab is seeking a Software Developer who will support other developers within Geotab by contributing to development, QA and engineering-support inquiries. What you'll do:

As a Software Developer is primarily responsible for designing, building and maintaining efficient, reusable, reliable code to develop high throughput, performance critical, scalable applications. Part of this role involves collaborating and building relationships with other software developers, engineers, and internal technical teams, and contributing towards the development of the team's roadmap.

How you'll make an impact:

  • Contribute to identifying areas of improvement in existing code and architecture, with guidance from senior developers and team leads.

  • Must be able to work with high-level requirements, proactively collaborate with stakeholders to drive clarity, and deliver a world-class product across user experience, reliability, stability, and response time. Demonstrates the maturity to recognize when urgency is warranted, identify and prioritize time-critical work, communicate delivery risks early, and make sound trade-off decisions under pressure and steer delivery - without compromising quality.

  • Participate in the development of scalable code, prototypes, minimum viable products and PoCs under the direction of senior team members.

  • Take ownership of tasks and features, contributing to their implementation while communicating progress, blockers, and solutions to your team.

  • Collaborate with other developers on design and implementation of features, learning cross-product context along the way.

  • Write, test, and review code to ensure quality and adherence to team best practices; participate in code reviews as both a reviewer and reviewee.

  • Use AI-assisted development tools (such as GitHub Copilot, Claude, or equivalent) as a core part of your daily workflow to accelerate coding, debugging, and documentation.

  • Leverage AI tooling to generate unit tests, identify edge cases, and improve code coverage — increasing development velocity without compromising quality.

  • Contribute to team documentation — system design notes, runbooks, and feature specs — using AI tools to draft and structure documentation efficiently.

  • Stay current with emerging AI tools, development practices, and technologies; share relevant learnings with the team.

  • Participate in technical discussions and team ceremonies; ask questions, contribute ideas, and grow your ability to communicate technical concepts clearly.

  • Proactively explore how AI and automation can improve team workflows, tooling, and developer experience — and bring proposals to your team lead.

  • Support Geotab global strategic initiatives by delivering reliable, high-quality contributions to team goals.

  • Write clean, secure, and maintainable software across languages and environments such as C#, JavaScript, and SQL, with a focus on continuous improvement.

  • Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotating schedule (if applicable), supported by senior team members.

What you'll bring to the role:

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelors in a related field.

  • Pursuing a Degree or Diploma in Computer Science, Math, Software Engineering, or a related field is preferred.

Soft Skills:

  • Eager to learn and contribute in a fast-paced environment.

  • Enthusiasm for exploring and applying AI tools to enhance productivity and solve problems.

  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to quickly understand complex, technical concepts.

  • A Willingness to participate in team discussions and support fellow team members in a collaborative environment.

Nice to Have (Technical Skills - Willingness to Learn is Key):

  • Experience with or curiosity about AI development tools, large language models, or AI-assisted coding platforms.

  • Exposure to web development technologies (e.g., HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React).

  • Basic understanding of object-oriented programming concepts.

  • Knowledge of backend systems such as C# .NET Core / .NET 7+. IMP.

  • Understanding of version control principles (e.g., Git).

  • Interest in exploring cloud computing (e.g., GCP).

  • Familiarity of database design and relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL).

  • Foundational knowledge of RESTful API design and development.

The annual base salary for this position is the expected annual salary for this role, and may be subject to change. Geotab offers various perks and benefits and other compensation components that an individual may be eligible for. The actual base salary for this position depends on a variety of factors such as but not limited to skills, qualifications, education and overall experience, including the location the applicant lives while performing the job. This also includes equity with other team members and alignment with local market data. All offers of employment are contingent upon proof of eligibility to work and the individual's ability to pass a background check.
