Job Summary
The North Slave Métis Alliance’s Health & Wellness Project Manager oversees all health-related programs, services, and initiatives on behalf of the collective North Slave Métis community. They will ensure the delivery of all services are culturally informed and community oriented. This individual is responsible for planning, implementing, and monitoring all health programs and services tailored specifically to citizen needs. They will be responsible for the co-development of NSMA’s Health & Wellness 5-Year Strategic Plan alongside the Health & Wellness Committee.
Roles and Responsibilities: The Health & Wellness Coordinator’s responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Provide leadership and oversight of NSMA’s health and wellness programs, in close collaboration with the Lands & Culture Department, ensuring the delivery aligns with community priorities and funding requirements.
- Where possible and appropriate, work collaboratively with regional health authorities, Indigenous health partners, and internal staff to ensure effective health and wellness service’s delivery.
- Advocate for Métis health needs on a community, regional, territorial, and federal level.
- Lead and manage the Health & Wellness Committee, primary duties include:
- Act in accordance of the Terms of Reference and Rules and Procedures (currently under development)
- Schedule and notify members of upcoming meetings in a timely manner
- Develop meeting agendas and relevant materials and share promptly with Committee
- Ensure accurate meeting minutes are being taken and stored properly in NSMA’s secured Health & Wellness server
- Actively, respectfully, and without judgement listen to members’ concerns, opinions, experiences, and stories and carefully document them in order to address these concerns
- Regularly inform Lands and Culture Department on the status of the Committee, including: key discussion topics, major outcomes, questions and concerns from the Committee, conflicts and concerns, and upcoming milestones
- Engage with relevant consultants as needed.
- Represent NSMA on external working groups such as: Indigenous Advisory Body, Health & Social Services Council of Leaders, and others as needed.
- Liaison with and oversee NSMA’s Patient Navigator.
- Organize community health activities and events alongside Cultural Coordinator.
- Works with local community agencies to promote utilization of their services by local First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples.
- May work independently with individual citizens and/or families, providing them with education, support, assistance, and encouragement to access appropriate health interventions.
- Develop educational components and assist in the creation of program material (e.g., brochures, orientation, communication, etc.).
- Host community engagement sessions as needed, regularly engage with the citizens on their needs and priorities.
- Identify opportunities for partnerships with external organizations and individuals.
Education and Background:
- Professional background in one of the following: Health Administration, public health, social work, community services, nursing, Indigenous studies, or related health sciences.
- Direct program delivery experience in the community social services sector with a demonstrated working knowledge of community, regional and territorial-based programs.
Relevant Experience and Qualifications:
- Experience liaising with multiple health partners, such as federal/territorial health authorities, non-profits, and Indigenous health organizations.
- Experience managing program budgets, preparing financial reports, and fulfilling funder reporting requirements.
- Understanding of meeting facilitation and managing dialogue among meeting participants.
- Communication skills (oral and written), ease of speaking in public.
- Computer proficiency (e.g., MS Office suite) for reporting, planning, and presentations.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
- Class 5 driver’s license.
Training Required: All employees are expected to participate in many types of training – some of them annually. Topics would include:
- Trauma Informed Care
- Lateral Violence / Kindness
- Workplace harassment and violence prevention
- Suicide Intervention (all H&W staff)
- Standard First Aid CPR/AED.
