Full job description

Job Profile:

The successful applicant will have excellent graphic design, multimedia, and digital communications skills with an ability to execute campaigns across various platforms. This role will be responsible for coordinating social media channels and driving engagement and growth of the brand by supporting the departments’ creative efforts via graphic, multimedia design and content management across various websites and digital platforms. This role operates under the day-to-day guidance of the Communications Manager and in accordance with the overarching direction of the Business Manager.

Job Responsibilities / Duties:

1. To help develop, maintain, and assist in leading the IUOE Local 793 social media and digital strategy by:

  • Managing content planning, scheduling and posting across all utilized social media channels;
  • Ensuring content is posted promptly and that all channels are kept appropriately updated;
  • Ensuring audience engagement across all social media channels (Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube, etc.);
  • Responding to and engaging with followers in a timely, positive and accurate manner;
  • Driving traffic from social media platforms to company websites (iuoelocal793.org, oebac.org, oetio.com, oebanquet.com);
  • Regularly analyzing the performance of all social media channels and reporting on trends on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis;
  • Coordinating the scheduling of regular posts and updates across all platforms and maintaining a posting schedule for each platform on behalf of the department;
  • Recognizing and following trends on social media and within our industry, and determining how to apply said trends to the overall communications strategy;
  • Monitoring news sources to identify issues affecting the trade, including the political climate;
  • Keeping up to date with construction news and researching items of interest to the Local and the trade.

2. To help oversee the IUOE Local 793 website content administration by:

  • Editing, updating and managing various websites (iuoelocal793.org, oebac.org, oetio.com, oebanquet.com) to ensure content is current, dynamic and relevant;
  • Writing regularly scheduled blog posts and articles for feature on the website;
  • Monitoring and reporting on website metrics to ensure the department understands what content draws views and garners the most engagement.

3. To assist in departmental content creation and publishing, by:

  • Ensuring consistent branding and messaging across all platforms;
  • Providing excellent copywriting and publishing practices across all platforms;
  • Creating content such as graphic designs, advertisements and short videos (e.g. TikToks) for various platforms;
  • Helping to review all graphics, video cuts and final versions of new content being developed;
  • Researching new and trending digital tactics and audience preferences and reporting to the department manager on strategy proposals;
  • Sourcing stock photography and assisting with digital production;
  • Assisting with researching and writing content such as blog posts and articles;
  • Assisting with creation and editing of magazines and newsletters on a recurring basis.

4. Other duties, when required, as may be assigned by the Business Manager, Assistant Business Manager, Communications Manager, and/or Human Resources Department.

Job Requirements:

  • A post secondary formal education in communications, graphic design, or a related field;
  • 1-3 years experience in social media and website management;
  • Advanced proficiency in digital communications including social media, website and email design;
  • Experience using Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Premier Pro, and Acrobat;
  • Experience in website management, in particular WordPress and Wix;
  • Demonstrated strong writing, editing and storytelling skills for social platforms, email, web, blogs, etc.
  • Strong calendar management and deadline tracking experience;
  • Excellent comprehension, retention, and consistent logical thought processing skills;
  • Protection of information and maintaining confidentiality is paramount;
  • Must demonstrate a high standard of professional conduct, ethics, and reliability;
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills are required;
  • Initiative to solve problems and the ability to work effectively under deadline situations;
  • Capable of organizing job responsibilities and prioritizing assignments;
  • Strives to grow professionally through continuous study and keeps alert to current practices concerning this position;
  • Copes successfully with on-the-job demands and maintains personal and professional composure in stressful situations;
  • Comfortable travelling, attending events, and interviewing or engaging with people on a regular basis;
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team player;
  • Demonstrates an innovative approach to the work;
  • Ability to adapt to and learn new software;
  • Able to work well under pressure and meet set deadlines;
  • Excellent organizational, time management and prioritization skills;
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in all areas of work;
  • Above average computer skills including proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications and design software;
  • A vehicle and valid driver’s licence are required for this position.

Work Conditions:

  • This is an in-person role only;
  • Ability to travel and attend events as needed to generate communications content;
  • Fast-paced, time sensitive, high-volume environment;
  • Manual dexterity required to operate computer and peripherals;
  • Collaborative teamwork-based model.
