Role Summary

The Machine Operator is responsible for setting up and operating packaging equipment in accordance with established procedures and safety guidelines. This role ensures products are filled, sealed, and labeled accurately according to specifications, and verifies packaged goods against invoices to maintain quality and accuracy standards.

The operator reads and interprets diagrams and technical instructions to properly select, position, and secure machinery, and adjusts machine settings to achieve precise, timely production outcomes. Additional responsibilities include documenting inventory numbers and weights, organizing completed packages, and performing minor repairs or adjustments to packaging equipment as needed to maintain efficient operations.

This position is open for an 8 hours morning and afternoon shift

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure the quality and safety of all products throughout the packaging process.
  • Secure proper mechanical deployment and sealing of finished products using prescribed packaging materials, maintaining accurate weights in line with the production schedule.
  • Verify product accuracy, control fill weights, minimize product loss, and maintain packaging efficiency.
  • Monitor package quality, identification, finished product quality, and finished product/package quantities to meet company standards.
  • Perform required sanitation procedures after each production run to prepare equipment and work areas for subsequent operations.
  • Support and promote a safe, respectful, and productive work environment.
  • Ensure all Safety, Production, and Accuracy standards are consistently achieved.
  • Comply with GMP, HACCP, and BRC regulatory and food safety standards.
  • Identify and propose process or equipment improvements to enhance efficiency and performance.
  • Report any safety hazards or concerns within the work environment promptly.
  • Maintain all production line equipment in a clean, sanitary, and organized condition.

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of packaging equipment, processing, and hands on experience with troubleshooting; aptitude for math, computers, mechanics and problem-solving
  • 1 – 3 years proven hands-on experience within the food industry or high-speed packaging plant; post-secondary schooling or completed apprenticeship preferred
  • Ability to prioritize in fast-paced environment and lift up to 55 lbs.
  • Dependable and accountable,

  • Strong communication skills: ability to communicate information clearly.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail, fast learner, and quick thinker.
