What you'll be doing
This team supports enterprise-wide data governance priorities across two key functional groups at CIBC: the Chief Administrative Office and Global Technology, Data & Artificial Intelligence. As a Senior Consultant, Data Governance, you’ll provide leadership and consultation on data governance activities that help partners achieve strategic objectives while aligning with enterprise data management policies and standards. You’ll analyze existing business processes, recommend practical enhancements, and support the implementation of changes that improve data quality, protect sensitive data, and strengthen operational effectiveness. You’ll work closely with business, functional, and technology partners to ensure data-related requirements are clearly understood and embedded in planning and execution. You’ll also serve as a subject matter expert on data management and records management, helping guide governance processes, controls, and compliance activities across a broad range of initiatives.
At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. You’ll have the flexibility to manage your work activities within a hybrid work arrangement where you’ll spend 1-3 days per week on-site, while other days will be remote.
How you'll succeed
- Lead governance initiatives - Provide oversight and guidance for data management and governance activities supporting the Chief Administrative Office and Global Technology, Data & Artificial Intelligence, ensuring initiatives, projects, and ongoing operations align with enterprise policies, standards, and compliance requirements.
- Drive framework adoption - Support the rollout and evolution of the data governance framework, with a focus on improving data quality, protecting sensitive data, and enhancing governance processes, metrics, tools, and related practices.
- Partner across teams - Act as a liaison between business, functional, and technology teams to ensure data-related business requirements are clearly defined, well understood, and reflected in prioritization, planning, and delivery.
- Strengthen controls and governance processes - Oversee data deviations, deficiencies, and Digital Crown Jewel (DCJ) controls, and facilitate governance activities such as Data Sharing Agreements (DSAs) and Data Sharing Risk Assessments (DSRAs) in partnership with Data Stewards and the Enterprise Data Risk Management Office (EDRMO).
- Maintain governance documentation - Manage and retain governance artifacts, including application inventories, governance roles, council materials, questionnaires, assessments, escalations, tracking logs, and data dictionaries.
- Monitor compliance and improve performance - Collaborate with Lead Data Stewards and Data Stewards to track quality and performance metrics, monitor adherence to data policies and standards, and identify opportunities to improve processes, efficiency, and governance maturity.
Who you are
- You can demonstrate strong experience in data governance. You bring experience with data management and data governance principles and practices, including business glossary, metadata management, data quality assessment, data issue management, and data access management. You have technical experience with data governance and data management tools. You’re comfortable working with platforms such as Microsoft Purview, Collibra, Databricks, and similar tools that support governance, metadata, lineage, and data management activities.
- You understand the data lifecycle. You have a strong understanding of data structures, data lifecycle concepts, and the technologies that support data storage, processing, and management.
- You bring valuable data product knowledge. Experience working with Data Products is an asset and will help you support evolving governance practices across the bank.
- You're passionate about people. You find meaning in relationships and surround yourself with a diverse network of partners. You connect with others through respect and authenticity.
- You're a thoughtful problem solver. You use strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and sound judgment to assess existing processes, identify gaps, and recommend practical improvements that enhance compliance and operational effectiveness.
- You're adaptable and self-directed. You can work independently with a high level of autonomy, quickly learn new processes and systems, and stay effective in a fast-paced, changing environment.
- Values matter to you. You bring your real self to work, and you live our values - trust, teamwork, and accountability.
