CAD 2 – GIS Operate (Distribution)

Hours of work: Full-time (37.5 hrs/wk) Flexible Work Role: Hybrid

Annual salary: $ 70,600.00 - 76,000.00

What you'll do

  • Creates and revises a variety of 2D and 3D engineering/design computer-aided drafting (CAD) models and drawings
associated for an assigned engineering/design discipline (including but not limited to: Civil/Structural, Electrical, Mechanical,
Protection & Control (P&C), Telecom or Municipal) for projects in Generation, Transmission or Distribution throughout the
province using BC Hydro tools, guides and standards.

  • Produces a variety of associated graphs, drawings, maps, diagrams, elevation and profile work, isolation/operate
drawings, crossing permit and right-of-way permit.

  • Determines when Engineering computer-aided drafting and design (CADD) standards and specifications may need to be
altered to meet non-standard situations and that their application is appropriate and applies to the ongoing drafting work
and reviews with higher-level CADD team members.

  • Assesses the drawings against applicable engineering/design and CADD standards and where the design appears to be
non-standard or involve conflicting data, flags and may correct errors for the attention of the Engineer/Designer.

  • Performs calculations to determine dimensions, elevations and slopes, actual scale, base loads, quantities of materials
and components, acceptable clearances and design layout.

  • Analyzes what may be minimal engineering/design instructions to determine individual project requirements for drawing
layouts and presentation of information and gathers additional engineering/design data to meet these requirements,
depending on the scope, complexity and nature of each project.

  • May lead or participate in working groups and technical committees such as the creation of CADD standards and
supporting materials such as standards, manuals or block drawings.

  • May provide on-the-job orientation to new CAD 1 team members.

  • Performs all the duties of the CAD 1 job.

  • Performs duties of a minor nature related to the above duties that do not affect the rating of the job.

What you bring

  • One (1) year certificate in computer-aided drafting (CAD) from an accredited post-secondary technical institution.

  • Four (4) years of experience in a computer-aided drafting (CAD) role in a relevant discipline (such as Civil/Structural,
Electrical, Mechanical, P&C, Telecom or Municipal). Preference given to the discipline directly relating to the position.

OR

  • Equivalent combination of academic training with CADD as part of the educational and/or development program and
related CADD experience.

  • Electrical utility or in a similar industry experience would be an asset.

  • Requires successful completion of applicable introductory courses on the BC Hydro Electrical System; or must be
completed within one (1) year of starting in the job.

  • Must hold a valid class five (5) driver's licence.

What else you should know

This position is affiliated with the Movement of United Professionals union (MoveUP/COPE). http://moveuptogether.ca

  • Good knowledge of BC Hydro’s Distribution GIS functionality available in DAD.

  • Good electrical knowledge of BC Hydro’s distribution system and all its components tracking circuits and solving conflicts.

  • Knowledge to update Operate drawings: Distribution Operate Diagrams (DOD), Underground Distribution Diagram,
(UDD), POCC, and ODCR etc.

  • Knowledgeable on how circuit works, how to interpret PA and look up on electrical information in DAD to update and
provide a drafts review and approve.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills will be essential to ensure clear communication and collaboration with the
Engineering Standards team.

  • Drafter must be able to work within a multi-discipline team environment with changing priorities.

  • Works in a normal office environment.
