Detailed Overview: Assists and transports patients, including deceased patients, their personal belongings, equipment, specimens and supplies to and from various locations within the hospital, in accordance with Fraser Health policies and procedures. Responsibilities:
  • Transports patients (including personal belongings) using designated equipment such as wheelchairs, stretchers or specialty beds to ensure arrival at specified location within time requirements. Communicates with nursing units regarding patient transport, as required, and reports any patient observations and interactions to professional staff, as appropriate.
  • Ensures patient comfort and readiness for transport to designated area; ensure patient safety needs are attended to while being transported and obtains assistance as required.
  • Porters patients requiring assistance on discharge from nursing units or treatment area to hospital exit.
  • Delivers specimens, requisitions/orders, equipment, furniture and patient care supplies to specified hospital areas as assigned including collecting and delivering stat samples to the Laboratory and stat drugs from Pharmacy.
  • Transports deceased patients by transferring deceased to the appropriate stretcher as directed, moving deceased to the morgue, and logging and recording information according to established procedures.
  • Transports medical apparatus and/or equipment such as intravenous solutions and poles, medications, catheters and oxygen cylinders.
  • Cleans, stores, retrieves and returns supplies, instruments and equipment such as beds, wheelchairs, and stretchers as required. Reports any damage or necessary repairs and removes and labels as defective or in need of repair or replacement.
  • Completes routine forms and keeps records related to work performed.
  • Maintains the overall tidiness of the unit(s) such as storing clean linen supplies and moving bags of soiled linen.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Education and Experience

Grade 10, plus one year of recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Basic Life Support Level C Certificate.
