Full job description

Duz Cho is seeking an OFA3 level medic starting in the Mackenzie BC area. If you think you have what it takes to join a dynamic team and become a lifetime member of a growing team, please apply without haste.

Duz Cho is a 100% Indigenous owned company, with ownership belonging to Mcleod Lake Indian Band. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of the diverse cultures and histories of local Indigenous communities. They must have demonstrated experience in applying Indigenous knowledge in a professional setting, adhering to cultural protocols, and working with a culturally safe approach. Knowledge of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada (TRC) Calls to Action and a commitment to advancing reconciliation are essential.

The schedule will be 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off rotation. This position is open to local candidates only as they can travel home each night.

Being able to pass an Alcohol / Drug test will be a condition of employment.

Key Responsibilities:

Emergency Response:

· Respond promptly to medical emergencies in the workplace.

· Assess the condition of injured or ill individuals and determine the appropriate course of action.

· Administer advanced first aid, including CPR, use of automated external defibrillators (AED), spinal management, and control of severe bleeding.

· Stabilize patients and prepare them for transport to medical facilities if necessary.

Patient Care:

· Provide care for a range of medical conditions and injuries, from minor to life-threatening.

· Monitor and document patients' vital signs and condition.

· Administer medications and treatments as authorized by training and protocols.

· Provide reassurance and support to patients and their families.

Coordination and Communication:

· Communicate effectively with other medical personnel, emergency services, and workplace safety officers.

· Coordinate with external emergency services to ensure timely and efficient patient transport.

· Provide detailed handovers to paramedics and hospital staff.

Record Keeping:

· Maintain accurate and confidential medical records for all incidents.

· Complete required documentation, including incident reports and patient care records.

Training and Compliance:

· Ensure compliance with workplace safety regulations and first aid protocols.

· Conduct regular checks and maintenance of first aid equipment and supplies.

· Participate in ongoing training and professional development to maintain and upgrade skills.

· Provide training and guidance to other employees on first aid procedures and safety practices.

Safety and Prevention:

· Participate in workplace safety inspections and hazard assessments.

· Promote a safe working environment by identifying and mitigating potential hazards.

· Assist in the development and implementation of workplace safety policies and emergency response plans.

Qualifications:

Certification:

Valid Occupational First Aid Level 3 (OFA 3) certification.

Experience:

Previous experience in a similar role or in a medical/first responder capacity is preferred.

Skills:

· Strong knowledge of advanced first aid techniques and medical procedures.

· Excellent assessment and decision-making skills.

· Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

· Ability to remain calm and composed in emergency situations.

· Proficiency in record-keeping and reporting.

Physical Requirements:

· Ability to lift and carry medical equipment and patients.

· Ability to work in various environments, including outdoors and remote locations.

· Working Conditions:

· This position may require working in various settings, including industrial sites, construction areas, and remote locations.

· Shifts may include evenings, weekends, and holidays, depending on the operational needs.

· The role may involve exposure to hazardous conditions and requires adherence to strict safety protocols.

Reporting To:

Health and Safety Manager or Site Supervisor.

Rate will be $25 - $30 / hr depending on experience.
