Fire Alarm Technician

Vipond Inc. was Founded in 1945 as one of the premier fire protection companies and now the largest national Notifier Engineered Systems Distributor in Canada. Our portfolio includes: fire detection & alarm, communications & security, 24-hour monitoring, mass notification, fire sprinkler protection and special hazards suppression along with clean agent suppression. Nationally and Internationally.

We are currently recruiting a Fire Alarm Technician (with CFAA certification completed) to join our growing team at our Calgary, AB location. The Fire Alarm Technician will be responsible for providing customer and technical support for new and installed fire alarm systems. Scope of work includes technical assistance, troubleshooting, programming, testing, and inspection of fire alarm systems.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Test, repair, and service a variety of fire alarm systems and equipment with guidance as needed.
  • Perform Rack-up, Programming and Verification of new fire alarm systems.
  • Identify and resolve problems for most types of service calls including emergency calls; analyzes repair requirements and provides customer with appropriate solutions; complete necessary repairs and replacements as needed;
  • Using technical knowledge, skills and experience, may act as mentor for less experienced staff. May provide guidance to workers in testing, annual inspections, and adjusting equipment to obtain optimum operating performance.
  • Effectively communicate project requirements and status including project change proposals and related project activities on a regular basis to project manager/supervisor.
  • Perform wiring checkout, system start-ups, and programming using commissioning tools. Complete final adjustments, calibration and commissioning reports on systems.
  • Complete accurate and detailed service reports.
  • Read and understand engineered drawings, specifications, programs, schematics, installation manuals, and service manuals
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as requested or required.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Technicians shall have 3-5 years of experience as a Service Technician within the Fire Alarm industry.
  • Ability to communicate in English both verbal and written.
  • Experience with Notifier by Honeywell products an asset.
  • CFAA Fire Alarm Technician course successfully completed.
  • Diploma in Electronics Technology an asset
  • Solid customer focus and ability to work under pressure; ability to meet customers needs.
  • Strong technical skills and experience related to fire alarm systems
  • Solid programming skills and proven ability to troubleshoot problems and look for solutions
  • Possess a valid and clean motor vehicle license
  • Ability to lift equipment and tools up to 70lbs and climb ladders and scaffolding
  • Competency in Microsoft Word and Excel is an asset
