Job Title

Quality Assurance Technician

Position Overview

Layfield Flexible Films is seeking a Quality Assurance Technician who will be responsible for conducting raw materials and product testing activities undertaken by or on behalf of the Flexible Films operations, including internal product conformance testing and external testing performed at subcontractor sites. The position will also be responsible for the administration and continuous improvement of Layfield’s Quality Management System.

Key Responsibilities

Product Conformance Testing:

  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative testing of raw materials and finished goods
  • Conducts all product conformance testing on behalf of the Richmond Manufacturing plant, including internal production testing and external testing performed at subcontractor sites
  • Issues Certificate of Conformance/Acceptance (CoC/CoA), Mill Certificate, or Product Test Reports
  • Performs, or coordinates the performing of, all WIP Inspection releases through Syspro
  • Data Entry and Analysis

Assessment and Management System Maintenance:

  • Performs process and/or product audits to ensure conformance to product specifications, Quality and Food Safety system requirements
  • Facilitate the disposition and release of quarantined materials and/or products at the Richmond manufacturing plant
  • Support the investigation and close-out of internal and external non-conformances
  • Maintain and keep the calibration status of measuring equipment used in the Richmond manufacturing plant and laboratory current.
  • Develop the inspection specifications for production testing requirements

Testing support to Engineering:

  • Provides technical and testing support to the Engineering team in the product development process
  • Work with the Engineering team in recommending changes to material and product test protocols

Education & Experience

Technical Degree or Diploma strongly recommended. Industry or laboratory experience preferred, but not essential.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Core Competencies:

  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Detail oriented
  • Computer skills, can effectively use MS Office applications
  • Planning skills when handling multiple priorities
  • Communicate effectively; able to give constructive feedback in a non-confrontational, collaborative manner

Post-secondary education in a technical or science field of study, ASQ Quality Technician certification considered an asset.

Working Conditions

This is a full-time, permanent position. This position is based primarily at the Richmond Campus but occasional travel to Langley Campus may be required.

The base salary range for this position is $55,000 - $60,000

Layfield offers a comprehensive extended health benefits package plus a target bonus of 5%, 15 days’ vacation (prorated) and employer RRSP contributions of 4%.
