Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Addiction Counsellor to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will provide support and guidance to individuals struggling with addiction, helping them navigate recovery processes. This role involves working closely with patients, families, and healthcare providers to develop personalized treatment plans. The Addiction Counsellor will play a vital role in promoting healing, resilience, and long-term sobriety through evidence-based interventions and empathetic care.

Responsibilities

  • Perform patient screening and assessments.
  • Conduct individual or group therapy sessions to build rapport with patients and discuss ongoing treatment plans.
  • Facilitate crisis interventions for patients as necessary.
  • Identify traits that may affect a patient's treatment and providing them with tools to mitigate these obstacles.
  • Collaborate with medical professionals in a multi-disciplinary treatment team
  • Develop treatment plans specific to each patient's substance use or behavioral addiction patterns, physical and mental health, and life goals
  • Provide educational and prevention programs, pretreatment assessments and referrals to treatment centers to members of the Community who are experiencing problems with addictions
  • Refer patients to other health or Wellbeing resources as required.
  • Complete necessary reporting and maintain records as required.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations, procedures, and safe work practices, including the successful completion of required Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) training; and
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Possess a Bachelor of Social Work, Bachelor of Psychology or Addiction Studies or a combination of related education and experience.
  • Registered with a recognized Canadian licensing body that aligns with your education and experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of various physical and behavioural addictions, their etiology, and optimal plans for treatment and intervention.
  • Highly developed clinical skills and expertise in a variety of treatment approaches, and modalities including but not limited to group work, one on one, and Indigenous approaches to Addictions treatment.
  • High degree of comfort in dealing with suicide ideation, violence and abuse, intergenerational trauma, substance abuse and crisis intervention.
  • Ability to articulate First Nations family structures and a strong understanding of the effects of residential school, foster-care histories and other current events and histories that influence/support addictive behaviours.
  • Ability to work with a variety of individuals presenting with complex issues, including co-occurring substance abuse and psychiatric disorder.
  • Ability to work both independently as well as within team context.
  • Knowledge of Dakota Language and culture an asset
  • Excellent written and oral skills as well as an ability to use electronic medical records software.
  • Working knowledge of PC software applications
  • Respect for privacy and confidentiality is essential.
  • High level of professionalism is expected.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Saskatchewan driver's license and a reliable vehicle.

  • The successful candidate will be subject to an acceptable Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search as a condition of employment.
