What You Will Do

• Perform a variety of technical assignments related to the design, maintenance, reliability, rehabilitation, and lifecycle support of TTC revenue rail vehicles, associated equipment, and vehicle subsystems.
• Investigate, diagnose and perform root cause analysis of complex failures involving electrical, electronic, mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems; develop corrective actions and monitor the effectiveness of implemented solutions.
• Research, develop, evaluate and implement modifications, engineering improvements, repair methods and maintenance practices to enhance vehicle safety, reliability, maintainability and performance.
• Prepare and revise technical specifications, engineering drawings, design packages, standards, maintenance instructions, test procedures and other technical documentation related to rail vehicle systems and associated equipment.
• Plan, coordinate and conduct inspections, testing, commissioning and validation activities associated with fleet modifications, engineering projects, equipment upgrades and new technology implementations.
• Analyze maintenance, reliability, warranty and operational performance data to identify trends, support engineering investigations and develop recommendations for fleet improvements and lifecycle management strategies.
• Coordinate technical activities related to vehicle refurbishment, equipment replacement, reliability improvement initiatives and capital projects; monitor progress and provide recommendations to support departmental objectives.
• Provide technical support for procurement activities, including development of technical requirements, review of engineering submissions, evaluation of supplier proposals, and acceptance of equipment and services.
• Provide technical guidance and support to maintenance, operations, trades, engineering and project staff regarding vehicle systems, troubleshooting techniques, modifications, standards and best practices.
• Develop and deliver technical training programs, presentations and supporting documentation related to engineering changes, maintenance procedures, new technologies and departmental standards.
• Prepare technical reports, engineering assessments, failure analyses, cost evaluations, lifecycle studies and correspondence related to assigned projects and programs.
• Support the administration of design reviews, configuration control processes and engineering change management activities to ensure compliance with applicable standards, specifications and regulatory requirements.

What Qualifications Do You Bring?

• Completion of a post-secondary college diploma or university degree in Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical, Mechatronics or Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
• OACETT certification as a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) and/or registration with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) would be considered an asset.
• Several years of directly related experience supporting the design, maintenance, troubleshooting, testing and improvement of complex electro-mechanical systems. Experience with rail vehicles, transit systems or heavy industrial equipment would be considered a strong asset.
• Demonstrated knowledge of engineering design principles, technical specifications, system integration, reliability engineering and lifecycle support methodologies.
• Thorough understanding of electrical, electronic, mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, with demonstrated ability to diagnose failures, develop corrective actions and implement technical solutions.
• Experience conducting technical investigations, root cause analyses, testing programs, validation activities and engineering assessments of complex equipment and systems.
• Experience supporting technical projects involving vehicle modifications, equipment upgrades, refurbishment programs, procurement activities and engineering change implementation.
• Demonstrated ability to prepare clear and effective engineering reports, technical specifications, maintenance instructions, procedures, training materials and technical correspondence.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to exercise sound engineering judgement and make evidence-based recommendations.
• Effective interpersonal, presentation, verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with technical, supervisory, trades, operational and external stakeholders.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and engineering software used for design development, technical drafting, data analysis, testing and documentation. Experience with DraftSight, SolidWorks, maintenance management systems, engineering databases, and data acquisition and diagnostic tools would be considered an asset.
• Experience providing technical guidance, mentoring and training to technical, trades and operational personnel.
• The successful candidate may be required to attend and successfully complete TTC in-house training programs related to the work.
