About BHP Potash – Jansen
The Jansen project in Saskatchewan, Canada is set to become one of the largest potash mines in the world and is located approximately 140 kilometers east of Saskatoon. As the largest investment in Saskatchewan’s history, Jansen is expected to generate approximately 5,500 workforce opportunities during construction and 900 long-term roles.
Once fully ramped up, Jansen is expected to have an initial production capacity of approximately 8.5 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa), with the potential to produce 16 to 17 Mtpa in future stages.

About the Opportunity
You will be paid while you train at the BHP Potash Academy and become a qualified Production/Maintenance Technician (surface & underground). These are permanent opportunities, and once successfully completing your studies, you will continue your employment with BHP in a permanent position based at our Jansen mine site with a choice of even time rosters to ensure the best work life balance. Traineeships are an 8-month training program based at the academy. Trainees study to become highly skilled and valued production technicians with BHP, completing a certificate in mining essentials and a certificate in applied mechanics. You will also get a blend of theory, practical and on-site learning while becoming familiar with maintaining/operating specific mining equipment. Traineeship Details
Training is undertaken in Humboldt. While training you will be working Monday to Friday a standard 8hr day at BHP's Potash Academy Training Facility.
Once You Deploy to Site
Upon successful completion of the training program, you will commence mine-site based employment at our Jansen operations. Graduates will deploy to site as Production Technicians or Maintenance Technicians.
Daily activities include:
- Operation of heavy equipment
- Manual sounding/scaling in UG operations
- General maintenance tasks (repair/replace monorail systems, conveyor rollers, general preventative maintenance tasks)
- Equipment inspections
- Mucking with a scoop (LHD)
- Installing roof bolting systems
- Safety Hazard Reporting
