Job Summary

We're looking for a Junior Infrastructure Security Administrator to join our IT team. In this role you'll help keep our systems secure — monitoring security alerts, assisting with vulnerability management and supporting day-to-day security operations — while also acting as a second-tier resource for IT support questions escalated from our help desk.

This role suits someone earlier in their IT career who wants to grow into security, though we're also open to more experienced candidates. Either way, you should be able to step into the role ready to handle most day-to-day IT and networking tasks independently. A security-focused diploma, such as NSCC's IT Systems Management and Security program, is an ideal background. You'll get hands-on exposure to a wide range of technology — servers, networking, cloud services and security tools.

This is a hybrid role: 3 days per week in the office and 2 days working from home, with occasional onsite days at our data centre as needed.

What You’ll Do

  • Monitor security alerts and dashboards, investigate suspicious activity and escalate incidents when needed
  • Assist with vulnerability scanning, patching and security updates across servers and workstations
  • Help manage user accounts, access permissions and multifactor authentication in Active Directory and Microsoft 365
  • Provide second-tier support for IT questions and issues escalated from the help desk, troubleshooting problems with desktops, applications, email and access
  • Support our endpoint-protection and endpoint-management platforms
  • Help with phishing-report triage and security-awareness activities
  • Verify backups are completing successfully and assist with file and data recoveries
  • Participate in disaster-recovery testing and incident-response exercises
  • Write and maintain documentation, procedures and troubleshooting guides
  • Use PowerShell scripting to automate routine tasks
  • Be part of the on-call rotation for security incidents — if something serious happens outside business hours, you may be called on to help respond
  • Participate in scheduled weekend and after-hours maintenance windows for patching and server maintenance — off-hours time is banked as time off in lieu
  • Travel occasionally to our data centre for hands-on work (a valid driver’s licence and reliable access to a vehicle are required)

What You Bring

  • 1–3+ years of hands-on IT experience — help desk, desktop support, systems administration or a security-focused role (co-op and internship experience counts; more experienced candidates are also welcome)
  • The ability to independently handle most day-to-day IT and networking tasks
  • Working knowledge of Windows desktop and server environments, and familiarity with Active Directory
  • Networking fundamentals — TCP/IP, DNS and a basic understanding of firewalls
  • A real interest in IT security and a strong desire to build your skills in this area
  • Solid troubleshooting instincts — you like figuring out why something broke
  • Clear communication skills and patience when helping non-technical users
  • Good documentation habits
  • A valid driver’s licence and reliable access to a vehicle for travel to our data centre
  • Availability for the security-incident on-call rotation and occasional weekend/after-hours maintenance (banked as time off in lieu)

Nice to Have

Any of the following would be an asset — but we don’t expect anyone to have them all:

  • Security certifications such as CompTIA Security+ or Network+ (completed or in progress)
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 or Exchange Online administration
  • PowerShell or other scripting and automation experience
  • Familiarity with Linux operating systems and Linux-based network services
  • Experience with Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops or similar virtual application/desktop-delivery platforms
  • Experience with server virtualization platforms such as Microsoft Hyper-V or VMware
  • Exposure to vulnerability-scanning or security-monitoring tools
  • Familiarity with endpoint-protection or endpoint-management platforms
  • Exposure to cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure or AWS
  • Experience with backup tools such as Veeam
  • Awareness of security or compliance frameworks (e.g., SOC 2) or IT service-management practices

Education

  • A college diploma or degree in information technology, networking, cybersecurity or a related discipline is an asset — programs such as NSCC’s IT Systems Management and Security diploma are an ideal fit for this role
  • Equivalent combinations of certifications, self-directed learning and hands-on experience are absolutely welcome

Why Join Us

You'll get real responsibility from day one, broad hands-on exposure across our environment, and support for training and certifications as you grow your security career. If this role sounds like a fit but you don't meet every requirement, we'd still love to hear from you.

Pay: $56,000.00-$63,000.00 per year

  • Casual dress
  • Dental care
