Full job description

Based out of the Electrical Division Edmonton (EDE) location in Acheson, the Electrical Engineer in Training will report to the Engineering Manager of the Electrical Engineering department. The EIT will be responsible for the design of mainly Electrical House c/w associated equipment / Major Buyouts. The position also includes the potential to design LV/MV Switchgear & MV MCC with the Switchgear department.

Essential Responsibilities

· Design of Electrical components for fully integrated Electrical Service Buildings including but not limited to VFD’s, Battery Systems, DC Systems, Cabling and Cable Trays Systems, Lighting and Small Power, c/w associated calculations.

· Prepare engineering drawings including but not limited to general arrangements, single line diagrams, panel schedules, wiring diagrams, bill of materials & cable schedules from rough sketches or from general engineering and design information according to established standards and procedures using CAD workstations, as applicable.

· Utilizes client specifications, technical manuals and directives to ensure compliance with codes and company policies. Familiar with various standards and codes such as CEC, CSA, Alberta Building Code, etc. Review all applicable documentation and company procedural manuals to determine critical attributes of design.

· Incorporating information from design calculations and analysis into equipment specifications, data sheets, testing requirements, and material requisitions for design based equipment (high mast lighting, distribution transformers, distributions panels, local control panels, luminaires, raceway systems, low voltage power/control cables, fire detection/alarm system, electrical heat tracing system, fire stop barriers, etc.).

· May conduct or assist in inter-discipline vendor documentation review, electrical vendor documentation review and approval.

· Apply company products, standards, procedures and design guides to customer requirements.

· Provide clarification to electricians and other individuals utilizing designs to complete electrical installations on customer projects.

· Meet with customers to accurately interpret design specifications.

· Provide technical assistance to sales, engineering and inspection on daily problems.

· Assist in creation of training programs and perform formal training functions.

· Responsible for delivering projects with OTD (on time delivery) in accordance with the master schedule of all phases of a project.

· Other duties as required.

Core Competencies

· Competent in the use of AutoCAD & Microsoft Office Programs.

· Ability to interact on a regular basis with different stakeholders such as shop, inspection, engineering, sales, and shipping personnel.

· Effective communications with direct reports, teams, other functions, departments, and other internal and external contacts, as required.

· Accommodating, personable and comfortable with a variety of different clients and customers and/or stakeholders.

Qualifications

· Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering preferred, or equivalent experience in electrical installation and design.

· Two (2) years’ experience

· Experience in electrical installations and electrical design.

Working Conditions

· Temperature controlled working environment.

· Must wear personnel protective equipment at all times (i.e., hard hats, safety glasses, safety harnesses as required) and respirators when required.

· Must be able to work from all types of ladders (step ladders, "A" frame ladders, and all-size extension ladders).

· Job requires working in a office/shop setting.

· Working in front of a computer for the majority of the shift.

Physical Requirements

· Maintaining body equilibrium and agility to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching, ascending or descending stairs.

· Bending the body at the waist, the legs at the knees, and extending arms and hands in any direction in a repetitive manner.

· Standing, walking, and speaking for long periods of time.

· Using upper extremities to apply or exert a force up to 20 lbs.

· Typing, punching or applying pressure to an object with fingers and palm.

· Perceiving size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with the fingertips.
