Looking for an opportunity to contribute to major industrial projects while working alongside a team of experienced engineers and technical professionals? We are currently seeking an Electrical Draftsperson to support the design and execution of electrical infrastructure projects within a large-scale industrial environment.

Our client is a large-scale underground mining joint venture in the Sudbury Basin focused on the development of critical mineral resources. Backed by significant investment and industry-leading expertise, the operation offers employees the opportunity to contribute to a modern mining project that supports innovation, sustainability, and long-term growth in Northern Ontario. This is a contract position – scheduled until mid 2027.

About the Role:

In this role, you will support major capital, sustaining, and operational projects by developing detailed electrical drawings and technical documentation for industrial facilities. Working closely with engineering and site teams, you will help ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with established design standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare preliminary, general arrangement, and detailed electrical drawings from engineering concepts and specifications.
  • Develop and modify drawings for high-voltage systems, transformers, switchgear, motor control centres, PLCs, VFDs, lighting, grounding, and distribution systems.
  • Assist with electrical system layouts, design calculations, and field inspections.
  • Create bills of materials (BOMs), equipment specifications, and material take-offs.
  • Support project estimating, procurement, and vendor coordination activities.
  • Review consultant and contractor drawings for accuracy and compliance with design standards.
  • Participate in field inspections, project commissioning, and preparation of as-built drawings.
  • Maintain drawing records and ensure drafting standards are consistently applied.
  • Provide guidance and support to junior drafting personnel as required.

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Licensed Electrician considered a strong asset.
  • Minimum 5 years of drafting experience within industrial, mining, manufacturing, or heavy industrial environments.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, construction methods, and industry standards.
  • Working knowledge of the Ontario Electrical Code and relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience with PLCs, motor control systems, and industrial electrical infrastructure is preferred.
  • Valid Ontario Driver's License.
