KPMG Law’s Tax Litigation & Dispute Resolution practice assists companies and individuals in achieving timely and fair resolutions in various tax disputes. Our team is involved at every stage of the tax dispute process, from pre-litigation to litigation before provincial and federal courts and tribunals. What you will do:

Our team is involved at every stage of the tax dispute process, from pre-litigation to litigation before provincial and federal courts and tribunals.
As a vital member of our Tax Litigation & Dispute Resolution team, you will actively participate in all stages of the dispute process. Collaborating closely with partners, associates, paralegals, and administrative support, you will play a key role in assisting our clients throughout their dispute resolution journey.
This position is ideal for a highly motivated and experienced professional who thrives in a dynamic environment and has a strong sense of initiative. The successful candidate will proactively anticipate and identify next steps while confidently taking ownership of executing and managing them. They will be comfortable speaking up, suggesting improvements, and driving tasks and projects forward to ensure they remain organized and successfully completed.
- Draft responses to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), assist with and prepare supporting documentation
- Prepare correspondence and draft legal documents such as lists of documents, affidavits, undertakings charts, transcript summaries, and other documentation as required
- Prepare and file court-related materials, including Books of Documents, Books of Authorities, and motion materials
- Coordinate and assist with preparation for meetings, discoveries, trials, and other related tasks as needed
- Attend and provide support at discoveries, hearings, and client meetings, as required
- Communicate with clients, the Canada Revenue Agency (or other tax authorities), courts, and related parties, maintaining a high level of professionalism and a client-focused approach
- Perform e-Discovery tasks, including maintaining workspaces, assist with document review and production, objective coding, and workflow development
- Handle file and case management tasks, including organizing materials, tracking deadlines, and proactively identifying next steps to move matters forward effectively
- Contribute to the refinement of best practices for the paralegal/law clerk role, including offering input on process improvements, staying informed on updates to Court Rules, Acts, and related legislative or procedural changes, and integrating these updates into workflows to ensure compliance and operational efficiency
- Education and Credentials: Paralegal degree/diploma, law clerk diploma, or equivalent qualification with law clerk or paralegal experience
- Experience:

- A minimum of 3 years of Law Clerk/Paralegal experience
- Experience in litigation (tax disputes is considered an asset)
- Basic understanding of various Court Rules, Guidelines, Practice Directions (the Tax Court of Canada Rules and Federal Courts Rules is considered an asset)
- Exposure to motions, discoveries, and trial preparation
- Familiarity with document review processes and assisting with affidavits of documents
- Working knowledge of e-Discovery platforms such as Relativity, Ringtail/Nuix, or similar tools
- Skills and Attributes:

- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Exceptional attention to detail and an ability to handle sensitive, confidential information with discretion

KPMG Ontario Region Pay Range Information
The expected base salary range for this position is $65,000 to $85,000 and may be eligible for bonus awards. The determination of an applicant’s base salary within this range is based on the individual’s location, skills & competencies, and unique qualifications. In addition, KPMG offers a comprehensive and competitive Total Rewards program.
