The primary focus of the Service Technician is to complete annual inspections and load testing on installed Guldmann patient lift systems throughout the province of British Columbia. The Technician will provide technical support/customer service in the areas of maintenance, installation and repairs to hospitals, field staff, and our dealer network.
Although Guldmann operates across Canada, the geographical scope of this position will be focused within the lower mainland of British Columbia. However, at times there will be a need to assist elsewhere in the province pending schedules and customer demands. The position is expected to include at least 25% overnight travel away from home. Travel days will include an additional daily per-diem payment in addition to wages.

- Serve as the primary field technical expert for the diagnosis, troubleshooting, repair, and optimization of patient ceiling lifts, floor lifts, and related equipment.
- Utilize strong technical skills to perform remote diagnostics, system troubleshooting, software/firmware upgrades, and technical support using digital and remote-access tools.
- Execute maintenance and repair activities across healthcare, long-term care, rehabilitation, and community care environments.
- Deliver exceptional customer service by providing clear communication, technical guidance, and timely updates on service activities and equipment status.
- Collaborate closely with customers and internal service teams to ensure efficient resolution of service requests and equipment issues.
- Accurately complete and submit service reports, work orders, inspection documentation, and site summaries in a timely manner.
- Support warehouse operations as required, including receiving shipments, inventory management, material handling, and order preparation.
- Participate in product demonstrations, trade shows, customer training, and other business development activities as needed.
- Maintain a high standard of safety, professionalism, and compliance while representing Guldmann in the field.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by Service Leadership.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong mechanical, electrical, and technical troubleshooting aptitude, with the ability to diagnose and resolve equipment issues both onsite and remotely.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams) and the ability to quickly learn and utilize service management, remote support, and reporting software.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate professionally and effectively with customers, healthcare staff, contractors, and internal teams, both verbally and in writing.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and guide customers through technical issues remotely via phone, video conferencing, and other digital support tools.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently, prioritize competing demands, and make sound decisions in the field.
- Collaborative team player with excellent interpersonal skills and a customer-focused approach to service delivery.
- Valid passport or eligibility to obtain one, with the ability to travel as required for training and customer support.
- Proficient in the safe and effective use of power tools, hand tools, testing equipment, and installation equipment.
- Ability to work safely at heights, including climbing ladders and accessing overhead lift systems.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to accurately document service activities, maintain records, and complete required reporting in a timely manner.
- Comfortable using computers, mobile devices, and digital platforms for service documentation, scheduling, communication, remote diagnostics, and software/firmware upgrades.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage service calls, inspections, maintenance schedules, and documentation efficiently.
Physical & Mental Requirements
- Ability to safely perform the physical demands of a field service role, including frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of materials and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs (23 kg).
- Capable of working in a variety of healthcare, commercial, and residential environments, occasionally under challenging site conditions and varying environmental factors.
- Ability to stand, walk, climb ladders, balance, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, and work in overhead or confined spaces as required to inspect, install, maintain, and repair equipment.
- Must possess the stamina and endurance to perform physically demanding tasks throughout the workday while adhering to safe work practices.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities, adapt to changing circumstances, and maintain professionalism in a fast-paced service environment.
- Strong attention to detail, situational awareness, and sound judgment when diagnosing issues, performing repairs, and working independently at customer sites.
