Role & Responsibilities

  • Develop and prepare engineering and construction drawings from preliminary concepts, sketches, specifications, and consultant information by operating computer-assisted design (CAD) and drafting workstations using AutoCAD and Revit for retail, restaurant, and commercial construction projects, including preparing detailed construction drawings and related technical documentation.
  • Create, maintain, and coordinate building information models (BIM) using computer software to provide digital representations of the physical and functional aspects of buildings and to support multidisciplinary coordination with structural, mechanical and electrical consultants.
  • Develop and prepare design sketches, detailed construction drawings, and design details, and complete documentation packages and drawing sets in accordance with project requirements and applicable codes.
  • Check, review, and verify design drawings to ensure accuracy, completeness, constructability, and conformity with specifications and design data, including coordination across architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical disciplines.
  • Supervise and train drafting technologists, technicians, and drafters, including providing technical guidance, mentoring, and quality-control review of drafting work, and contributing to the implementation and consistent application of internal drafting standards.
  • Coordinate drawing revisions, document control, drawing distribution, and version tracking directly related to drafting and design activities, including coordinating drafting deliverables to meet project milestones and internal deadlines.
  • Assist in the preparation of construction specifications and material lists, as required, to support drafting coordination and construction documentation.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

  • Completion of a two to three-year college program in engineering design and drafting technology or in a related field is required.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a drafting technologist in the construction industry, including experience supervising or mentoring drafting staff.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and Revit and experience with additional design or visualization software is an asset.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment; this is a full-time, in-office position requiring daily on-site presence.
