Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Operations Manager to lead our Hamilton transportation operation. This role is ideal for a transportation professional with strong trucking operations experience who is passionate about developing people, improving processes, embracing technology, and driving operational excellence. Reporting as a key member of the leadership team, the Operations Manager will oversee daily transportation, dispatch, customer service, and driver operations while ensuring exceptional service, safety, compliance, and overall business performance.

The successful candidate will be a hands-on leader who challenges the status quo, fosters accountability, and creates a culture of teamwork, continuous improvement, innovation, and operational excellence.

What You'll Do

Operational Leadership

• Oversee daily transportation, dispatch, customer service, and driver operations.
• Optimize terminal performance while maintaining high standards of accuracy, efficiency, and reliability.
• Work closely with dispatch to coordinate driver assignments, fleet utilization, and equipment allocation to meet customer requirements and delivery schedules.
• Monitor operational performance and identify opportunities to improve productivity, service levels, and profitability.
• Track key performance indicators (KPIs) and develop action plans to drive continuous improvement.

Team Leadership & Development

• Lead, coach, mentor, and develop dispatchers, drivers, planners, and operational staff.
• Establish clear expectations and hold team members accountable for performance and results.
• Foster a positive, collaborative, and safety-focused work environment.
• Support employee development through coaching, feedback, and performance management.

Process Improvement & Innovation

• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and streamline operational processes.
• Leverage transportation technology, management systems, and operational data to support informed decision-making and improve business performance.
• Challenge existing practices and implement innovative solutions that enhance customer service and operational effectiveness.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives across the operation.

Safety, Compliance & Customer Service

• Promote a culture of safety, compliance, and customer service excellence.
• Ensure adherence to all transportation, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with drivers, customers, and internal stakeholders to resolve operational challenges and improve service outcomes.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with customers while ensuring a consistently high level of service delivery.

What You Bring

Required

• Minimum 3-5 years of trucking or transportation operations experience, preferably in a leadership capacity.
• Experience in bulk chemical, tanker, or bulk transportation operations
• Strong knowledge of transportation operations, dispatch, fleet management, and driver supervision.
• Experience leading and developing high-performing teams.
• Proficiency with transportation management systems (TMS) such as TMW, TruckMate, or similar platforms.
• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite and operational reporting tools.
• Proven ability to implement process improvements and drive organizational change.
• Excellent organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to balance accountability with a positive and supportive leadership approach.

Preferred

• Experience utilizing operational analytics, KPI reporting, and performance metrics to improve operational results.
• Knowledge of continuous improvement, Lean principles, or operational excellence initiatives.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $85,000.00-$100,000.00 per year
