Full job description

About Nova DBA

Nova DBA is the long-term data partner for organizations whose operations depend on their data. We bring senior-level expertise in database and analytics, delivered with consistency, accountability, and genuine partnership, so data environments stay resilient and businesses understand what their data can do.

We are one team. Our specialists collaborate across database, analytics, infrastructure, and cloud-adjacent environments without silos. Clients experience Nova DBA as a calm, reliable partner who explains what matters, acts with judgement, and owns the result.

The Role

We are looking for a SQL Server DBA who combines strong technical depth with clear, proactive client communication.

In this role, you will monitor, maintain, troubleshoot, and improve client SQL Server environments. You will support managed service clients, respond to incidents, perform root-cause analysis, execute preventive maintenance, and contribute to Database Health Checks.

This is a hands-on technical role, but it is also a relationship role. At Nova DBA, clients should always understand what we found, what we did, what it means, and what happens next.

What You’ll Do

You will:

  • Monitor, maintain, patch, and support client SQL Server environments
  • Respond to incidents within SLA and perform root-cause analysis
  • Execute preventive maintenance, including backup restore testing, security reviews, DR-related activities, integrity checks, and patching
  • Support and deliver Database Health Checks
  • Analyze performance issues, query behavior, indexing, waits, blocking, storage pressure, and configuration risks
  • Provide infrastructure-aware database support across Windows Server, storage, cloud resources, and related operational layers
  • Communicate findings clearly to clients and colleagues
  • Document what was requested, what was done, what was found, decisions made, risks identified, and next steps
  • Surface risks, recurring issues, and improvement opportunities to the Account Manager through the proper internal process
  • Use AI and automation to accelerate diagnostics, documentation, and reporting while remaining fully accountable for the work

What We’re Looking For

You may be a strong fit if you have:

  • Strong hands-on experience administering Microsoft SQL Server in production environments
  • Experience with backups, restores, HA/DR, patching, maintenance, security configuration, and performance troubleshooting
  • Comfort with query tuning, indexing strategies, wait statistics, execution plans, and root-cause analysis
  • Working knowledge of Windows Server, storage, networking, Azure, or cloud infrastructure as they relate to SQL Server operations
  • The ability to communicate technical findings in practical business language
  • Strong documentation discipline
  • The judgement to know when to follow process, when to escalate, and when to push back
  • Fluency in French and English for client-facing communication
  • An active Microsoft or AWS certification, or a clear commitment to obtaining one

Certifications That Fit

Relevant certifications may include:

  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate
  • Microsoft data-related Expert-level certifications
  • AWS Certified Database – Specialty
  • Other Microsoft or AWS certifications aligned with database operations and cloud infrastructure

What Makes Someone Successful Here

At Nova DBA, technical skill is necessary, but it is not enough.

We value people who demonstrate:

  • Connection — you build trust with clients and colleagues
  • Judgement — you weigh trade-offs and speak up when something does not make sense
  • Mastery — you take pride in deep expertise and keep improving
  • Accountability — you own outcomes and communicate before people have to ask
  • Resourcefulness — when there is no obvious path, you find one

Why Join Nova DBA

You will join a specialist team that cares about craft, clarity, and long-term client relationships. You will work on environments that matter, with colleagues who take quality seriously and clients who rely on us for stability, resilience, and trusted guidance.

We use AI as an operational edge, not as a replacement for specialists. Your judgement, communication, and technical ownership remain the product.

  • Casual dress
  • Company events
