Full job description

An Ambassatours Tour Guide is a dynamic and immersive role that brings all the treasures, stories and rich history of Saint John to visitors from all over the world. Tour guides must be able to retain historical facts, dates, and anecdotes, and then relay that information to visitors in an entertaining, informative way. Ambassatours tour guides represent not only Ambassatours but New Brunswick as well.




Responsibilities
  • follows a pre-determined tour outlined designed by the cruise line and ACC (Ambassatours Cruise Corp.)
  • collects and accounts for all tickets, vouchers and admissions
  • accounts for, and is responsible for, every passenger while in their charge for the duration of the time they are together
  • plans and organizes routes and stops in an allotted timeframe within the parameters of the contract/tour description/direction of the MOS
  • plays the role of a cultural ambassador
  • delivers historically accurate commentary and interesting tidbits of information in an entertaining fashion
  • provides guidance and takes control of a group while in their care
  • reports any and all issues to the MOS/Operations Team immediately
  • works well with local tourism suppliers and other staff
  • comes prepared for the tour assigned with a full understanding of the requirements and how to execute them
  • communicates any tour irregularities or issues immediately with the Main on Site



Qualifications
  • willingness to participate in and receive, on-the-job training and evaluations
  • successfully complete tour assessment and training to establish readiness
  • reliable and continuous access to emails and a cell phone is required during working hours
  • ability to climb and descend at least one flight of stairs multiple times
  • continuously walk a minimum of 1 km on varied surfaces and elevations

Skills Required:

  • prolonged periods of public speaking and voice projection, min 1.5 hours at a time
  • professional manner and appearance
  • effective communication and conflict resolution skills
  • strong performance in custodial abilities
  • strong ability to time manage and be punctual
  • ability to follow assignments and instructions as delivered
  • enthusiasm and desire to sell Atlantic Canada as a travel destination
  • excellent organizational skills
  • flexibility to work shifts including early mornings, evenings, holidays and weekends
  • excellent oral and written communication skills
  • strong observation skills, attention to detail
  • Personal cleanliness & aesthetics of working space
  • friendly, customer-focused personality
  • flexibility and a willingness to rally to changing conditions like weather, traffic or delays.
  • ability to work under considerable time pressure at times

Are you interested?

Work Hours:

  • seasonal position from approximately August to November
  • irregular work schedules that take place over 7 days per week
  • a web / app-based program is used to communicate and manage shifts
  • no minimum guaranteed number of shifts, hours or tours.

Compensation:

  • hourly wage plus tips.

Salary: $24 per hour
